Has anyone tried the new Downtown Disney bakery, Babycakes? All of their stuff is vegan, refined-sugar-free, gluten-free, etc. etc. I'm hearing mixed reviews.

We checked it out when we were there last weekend, but weren't all that impressed. There was no line and their case was full (we were there around dinner time).

We'll give it a try, along with Pollo Campero at some point. I thought the review on Disney Food Blog was interesting...so we'll probably follow its guidance and stick with the muffin tops...although they (Babycakes) did tweet today that they're doing oatmeal raisin cookies too - my fave. And if there's a sweet treat that's a good platform for "good for you-ness", it's oatmeal raisin cookies.
I'll try anything once, and I've heard good things about their frosting-filled cookies.

Vegan cupcake seems like an oxymoron.
I don't know..probably not. When I am on vacation I want all the gluten and high fructose corn syrup I can get.
Haha...I know right? My problem is, I tend to think I'm on vacation everytime I'm on property, which can be a dangerous thing...
I'm so far from a vegan/vegetarian -- we got Omaha Steaks for a Channukah gift. This'll be a pass for us.
Zipadeedoodah -- yeah, man

I've heard that they stand on their own regardless off their vegan qualities. I don't know if I believe this but despite my carnivore nature I'll probably at least give them a try. I like a good cupcake.
I'm feeling like the lone wolf here, but I'd try it for sure, just to see what vegan desserts taste like--minus the guilt-trip of normal desserts.

So true!
I say all this stuff but I'll probably actually try it. I love cupcakes & if it's a guilt-free cupcake..and it's good..I'll eat 5.

Well, of course. Because that would be 5 times healthier. You can practically feel the vegan goodness sweeping away all the bad stuff!

That's my thoughts!
I think you guys are being a bit harsh just because they're vegan. Cupcakes are like beer, even we're they're not that good, they're still pretty good.

I've tried many different types of vegan treats - and they're delicious! I've never been to Babycakes but I'm sure their treats are delicious too. The texture can be different than "regular" cakes and cupcakes, but just go in with an open mind and don't expect their treats to taste exactly the same as their nonvegan equivalent.

I think that "open mind" is very important! If you decide you won't like it before you even try it, you're doomed!
I'm hearing lots of great reviews about some of Babycakes' stuff. I think I'll have to try one of everything just to be sure

I see a couple of people that say it's a pass, but I'm not really sure that anyone is being harsh. You're right...a cupcake is a cupcake. I am certainly looking forward to trying it at some point. I understand the differences in texture that come from baking this way...hubs and I have a background in professional baking/pastry...but that's not the kinda thing you tell everyone...or they immediately want you to bake them a b'day cake, whether it's their b'day or not. (An unbirthday cake perhaps? Perfect for Babycakes!) But I think it's a terrific option, whether you're vegan or not. I'm curious: do they avoid nuts as well? Lots of nut allergies out there. (And I realize the comic options there abound. There was a sign in my daughter's preschool that cracked me up everytime I saw it. It read, "We're a Nut Free School." For my part, I disagreed )
This may make me close-minded....but I like my baked good full of sugar and all the bad stuff so I'm not planning on trying it. lol There are plenty of other bakeries there I already love.
You know, we're heading over tomorrow. I may stop in at Babycakes just to check it out. I'd like to hit Pollo Campero, too. We'll see.

I probably wouldn't hit one in Dallas where we have a Sprinkles, but in Orlando, on property, I think it's worth trying them out. If they taste as good, I might forgive them for not having sugar and fat!
I keep hearing these wonderful things about it on the WDWtoday podcast but...vegan? I don't think so.
Besides, I missed McDonald's last time I went...Where else could you find cheap food? I LOVE ME HAMBURGERS, DAMN IT!
I have a date for babycakes in September, if no one else does. we'll paparazzi the whole place for you

I'll try it the next time I'm down. I keep popping in at nite, and I'm not so loving it at the end of the day. I'd rather go earlier when everything isn't so picked over.
Has anyone on here tried this place yet??I think it looks interesting..but then I think about frosting..and sugar..and eggs and all the wonderfulness that happens when those ingredients are combined.
We've tired them. I thought they were good, but I'd probably pick a good regular cupcake. If I was in DTD though, I'm not sure where I'd go to get a better cupcake. There is a cookie sandwich however that is really good. I'd definitely give it a try even if you're not a "vegan" kind of person.
Brad (or anyone else) doesn't Goofy's Candy Co. in DTD have cupcakes? If not they should.

If they do, they're not noteworthy as far as I know. But they do have things you can dip in other things.
Next time I go I'm requesting the woman who made AJ's make mine!

Things you can dip in other things. Best title ever.
Babycakes should get a "things you can dip in other things" station. But seriously, I've heard good stuff about them...I just need to try them.
I actually cant wait to try Baby Cakes! I am gluten free with Celiac, and Disney is always wonderful with food issues. Our trip is scheduled for 40 days from now! We are also going to a family wedding and I plan on picking up my personal cupcake here at Baby Cakes. I've heard wonderful things about them from the GF community!
