Would You Consider Off-Site for A Big Trip?

I've always thought part of the appeal of organizing a big group trip to WDW would be staying on-site, preferably in one or two of the great big villas. Of course once you get into that space, price becomes significant. This trip is still in the ether of "maybe," but people are lobbying to just get a 4 bedroom offsite "villa" which we could get everyone into and of course that's much cheaper. I don't want to kill the momentum of the trip, but I think we're missing out on a lot of magic if we don't stay on site. What do you guys think?

Well, I think you need to weigh the pros and cons with those who are going/paying.

Staying off site never really put a damper on things for me, but on-site added so much convience, like the transportation and room delivery of pictures/souviners, etc.

Staying off-site also throughs parking into the mix, which can add up if you are staying for a long time and pay to park at the parks each day.

I am a advocate of staying on-site, but I know everybody has different opinions and considerations to take into account, but I wouldn't say it would take away from the magic.

I agree that staying onsite adds a LOT of convenience. And if you don't have cars, it's almost critical to stay on site.

But the majority should rule on this one. Maybe you could schedule to spend a few days on-site with your family, then move over to the off-site villa? confused

I have always stayed on-site so I have a serious bias for it. I guess I'm like the guy who says he doesn't like Chinese food, even though he's never tried it.

Having stayed both on and off-site, I'd vote for on-site whenever possible. I've found that the off-site resorts that are in the "neighborhood" of Disney are not that much cheaper...unless you were to rent a large condo/timeshare...then it might be worth the difference.

For me the "magic" of being in the "Disney Bubble" is worth it. I definitely "feel" different, more relaxed, when I'm staying on-property. It's just a sense of being in "another world" while I'm there...and that is what I'm looking for...and paying for! awesome

PS...the MK TR is coming, I PROMISE...I'm back to work and wading through several hundred emails sad

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Maybe I need to figure out how to sell the on staying on-site. Normally I can make the point that the price differential can really be negligible. But when you have a large group you can find places to stay off-site considerably cheaper. Am I missing an option?

We are spoiled to on-site.Love the early mornings for resort guest then back to the hotel for a rest when the parks get busy.
I would check into renting points from a DVC owner. You can get a villa for about 1/2 price

That's great advice. I could probably get the cost comparable if I can find someone who wants to rent out their points. Or at least in the vicinity.

You hit the nail on the head of what I'll miss without EMH. Get up, go get a day's worth of fun in in 2 hours and then go back for a nap. I'm not sure I can hack it without EMH.

Now I feel like I'm not one of the cool kids again. I've never been able to stay on site. Been my plan to do so on the next trip for some time, but staying here
this time.

It's not bad. There is parking near all the units (least last time I was there). That pool area wasn't completed my last trip, so I can't speak to that specifically. Notice the two water slides on the left?

Woo water slides! Additionally that's always one of my love/hate issues with staying at a lot of the Disney resorts. You typically have quite a trek to get to your room. It would be really nice to be able to park close, like you can at Coronado Springs.

that place life is for living is staying looks like it could be a great place for a family gathering. especially if you have a lot of kids involved they can all go hit the slides while everyone else relaxes.
