Your favorite counter service

Apologies if this has already been posted, but as we start to plan for this year's trip, we're considering trying some of the new counter service that's been introduced.

Anyone have favorites (old or new)?

Tangierine Cafe has almost become a 'must-do' for us. Though the food isn't as authentic Moroccan as at Marrakesh it's a good sampling of Middle Eastern food.

Cantina de San Angel has surprisingly good Mexican food. Possibly, quality-wise, as good as San Angel Inn, but at obviously a different setting and lower prices.

Flame Tree BBQ is a favorite, and seating by the water with a view of EE really enhances the experience.

We were surprised on our most recent trip to find that we really enjoyed eating at Artist's Palette at Saratoga Springs Resort. I recommend the flatbread pizzas.

We don't do a ton of CS, but Flame Tree has been good.

Hi everyone!

Do you mean counter service in the parks or in the resorts?

Here are my favorites:

AK: Flame Tree BBQ!
MK: Columbia Harbor House.
DHS: none
Epcot: Fountainview Bakery in Future World; Yakitori House in Japan World Showcase.

Is Cosmic Ray's Cafe considered counter service or table service?

Maybe the question should have been "Excluding Flame Tree" as they would be on my list too.

I really like Cosmic Ray's at the Magic Kingdom (I guess that's not "new") and the fish and chips in the UK pavilion (again, not "new," but always good!).

Thanks for the suggestion; we've never done that.

Also, sounds like there's a little disagreement with Artist's Palette. We may have to check it out for ourselves.

@HM--We love those maragaritas!

Ditto...surprise, surprise!

Although at Artist's Palette, I loved my 1/2 sandwich and soup combo, it was delish!

At DtD, Earl of Sandwich was impressive. The sandwiches were great and you can get a AAA discount! I think the discount even applied to our beer! The lines seem imposing, but they move quickly and we found the food to be worth the price and the wait!

I have to reiterate how fantastic Tangierine Cafe is. We split a platter and got a side of olives and had more than enough to eat. Plus we enjoyed every single bite! We seriously will never be able to go on a trip without eating in Morocco!

How many of you have been to Tangerine? It seems like I should put it on my "must-do" list.

Pinocchio's in MK has become a first day tradition for us. Every time I take a huge first bit out of my pizza and then we take a picture of it.

get a seat overlooking IASW.

That's a great tradition! I think I may steal that in some form, like showing how sick I am after over-indulging at my first WDW meal.

I love watching IASW from Pinocchio, but I've actually never eaten there! Is the Pizza there the standard Disney fare?

I am one of those who is not impressed by Tangerine. Compare with Marrekesh, this counter service has no resemblance at all to Moroccan food. You order lamb, and what you get is nothing more than a gyro, which is not even Moroccan!

They could have done a bit more "research" on Moroccan street food and come up with something better than a generic Persian/Middle Eastern-type of food.

I think Studio Catering Co. and Backlot Express are fine. And all the little food stands on Hollywood Blvd are typical, standard counter service fare. ABC Commissary isn't horrible, but the seating is pretty boring! laugh

Personally, my favorite counter service changes all the time! I do love Casey's Corner, though. I never eat hot dogs, and I forget how much I like 'em!

Wow, ABC Commissary must really be boring. I must have walked past that place 20 times while at DHS and never thought it was a restaurant. I always figured it was some office area for the network, or at best a private company lounge like they have in EPCOT.

Yeah, you're not aiming your sights particularly high when you're naming your restaurant after a workplace cafeteria.

mickey AT DISNEY HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS CHECK OUT STARRING ROLLS CAFE, IT IS TUCKED BACK BESIDE THE BROWN DERBY. THEY SANDWICHES ARE GOOD AND THE LARGE MUFFINS ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO EAT AFTER THE SANDWICH. IF YOU ARE ON THE DINING PLAN IT MAKES A GREAT MID-DAY BREAK. TRY THE BUTTERFINGER MUFFIN AND BE READY TO SHARE IT WITH SOMEONE. IT IS UNBELIEVABLE. clapping

Welcome WDWMan! A Butterfinger Muffin sounds just about right now that it's lunchtime! Never had one I'm sorry to say. Will have to investigate next time!

Would you recommend getting the dining plan? Did it work well for you?

I'm pretty astounded that there could be something called a "Butterfinger Muffin" and I've never had one. It seems like a lot of us have missed this treat?

I don't know how I originally missed this thread, but I must-do for me every trip is El Pirata y El Perico. They don't really offer much, but for some reason I love it and I always stop and eat there. Although if I remember right it has strange hours and is sometimes hard to find it open.

I think I have the same feelings, where I like it but I couldn't tell you why. I think it's just because of the theme and where it's located. I certainly couldn't mention a "dish" I like there, but I like eating there...or at least being there. laugh

I am not even sure it serves "dishes" I think it is tacos, churros, and soft drinks . . laugh so it must be the theme/atmosphere/location
