"Your gonna go to Disney and see Harry Potter right"

Oh no this conversation didn't happen......but unfortunately it did. A girl that I work with who hasn't worked on our floor for very long heard me talking about leaving for Disney soon. Mind you this is a girl in her 20's with no children. At first she was like "I bet you are so excited, Are you going to go see Harry Potter at Disney" I laughed out loud so hard.....I was like oh no hunny, he's at that other park that's not as awesome as Disney...It's called Universal Studios. She was like "where's that at" I was like "Orlando" She's like "Well where is Disney at" I was like "Orlando" she was like so ok they are the same place.......I was like no, think of Universal as like the ugly redheaded stepchild to Disney...It is not nearly as awesome. So when she found out we were going to be there for a week she was like what could you possibly do in one park for a week....I just had to shake my head and proceed to explain to her about the 4 different parks. Then when she found out that we went every year and that we were going for two weeks next year and without the kids she was like I just don't understand why anyone would want to do that. Oh you poor poor girl who doesn't know what she's missing.....I wish all us WDW for grownups people could just be in one big bubble because we would be surrounded by people who get it...LOL

Oh I get that question ALL the time!! Sometimes I'm not sure which is worse, the people who don't get Disney or the people who think that they can help me plan my trip to Disney but have really only been once. At least with the people who don't get Disney I can try to explain. With the people that want to help me there's usually this awkward smiling and nodding as I bite my lip and try not to tell them why what they're telling me is wrong.

These are the same type of people that call Disney World , Disneyland. Both wonderful places but not the same place and they both have their own special things. You cannot group them together.

Or the ones that call the Magic Kingdom "Disney World" and think of HS, AK & EPCOT as being totally other amusment parks like they didn't belong to Disney!.

Oh my god... my traveling companion on this past trip kept doing that and he TOTALLY knew better! I think he may have just been trying to make me mad and it completely worked.

Oh don't wish you could enlighten everyone about WDW? It is sad that they just don't get it. I know there are people I work with just don't understand why I would go since I don't have any kids. Poor misguided people. laugh laugh

Hmmm. You do have a point there. Maybe I should be less enthusiastic when people ask me about Disney. WDW? Noooooo! You don't want to go there! awesome

Right...go to Six Flags, folks. It's just as nice and a whole lot closer.

I feel that way about the POFQ. I love to sing its praises, I love to hear others talk about it , but I want it to stay quiet and quaint.

If only that was a possibility.

When I was a girl, I remember that my family called WDW "our secret vacation spot." One/two parks, shopping village, three resorts and 6 hotels... we'd go down for a week and do it ALL. Ahhhhh.... those were the days. Before throngs of people and angry/raging tourists determined to get the most bang for their buck if it kills them, guest service policy was bend over backwards for everyone and every issue. Where's my wayback machine?

Just like I don't understand why my neighbors take a cruise, the same cruise line every year, to the Caribbean. I don't get it. Guess it is because I don't like the beach even though I have lived near on all my life, CA, HI,WA(we lived on the coast), VA Beach. They don't get me either so I guess we are even. I would love to go on a Disney cruise though. I can't figure out what holds me back the most the money, they pretty pricey, or my motion sickness. I would be the one wandering the ship when we pulled into Castaway Cay because I don't want my feet to get sandy. I'm weird I know.

Angels, I'm truly not a beach girl. I really hate sand. I'm afraid of fish. I don't really do any outdoorsy activities. But Castaway Cay... Completely worth the time and money. I would return in a heartbeat.

A lady at my husband's work is planning her first trip to WDW with her little girl. They leave in two weeks and she asked DH yesterday for advice by saying, "Well I know there is 'Enchanted Kingdom' but is there anything else to do there?" eek eek eek *head slap*

You have to come to rescue with some advice. What a waste of time and money if you go with no knowledge. I would highly recommend the unofficial guide Wdw w kids. Its saved our butts when our 2 year old ended up having to come with us on what had been planned as an adults only trip.

Right?! Jon started the story by telling me "So this is going to make you want to cry, but...." He knows me so well biggrin I sent her all of my planning stuff though I'm sure at this point it will all just overwhelm her. I truly don't understand investing that much money into a vacation and doing NO research before going. I know some people are way more laid back then me, but at the very least I would think you would want to know what you're getting into and what is all offered.

One day at work I was sitting at my desk doing my job minding my own business when of the girls from a different department stopped by to talk to my teammate who sits next to me. She was telling my teammate her family was going to Florida to visit family and were going to Disney for one day. My ears perked up, and I spun around in my chair. The conversation went something like this:

Me: I heard you say you were going to Disney. What park are you going to?
Her: Disney
Me: But which park?
Her: Disney
Me: There are four parks
Her: Oh, Magic Kingdom

While standing IN EPCOT at the Mexico pavilion last month, my traveling companion last month told me that he would really like to go to Epcot. I explained to him that we were in Epcot and that he had been there last year as well.
He proceeded to inform me how World Showcase doesn't count. gaah

I tried to explain the error of his ways, it was no use. waiting

I think one of the worst parts is that people who have things one way in their head just refuse to change their point of view. I could have spread a a roomful of research material out in front of him and he still would have insisted that we weren't in Epcot. What do you do at that point besides give up!? I think I patted him on the shoulder and took him to another country.

Epcot is one place where I can understand where once you get back into the countries... It may not be Epcot anymore. To us. Sure it's Epcot but enough walking separates the two to maybe distinguish that the two just maybe different.

Coming from the boat from HS... Is there a sign that says welcome to Epcot or welcome to the world showcase or both when you arrive? Or maybe nothing. I can't remember.

Surely looking at the park guide for Epcot would kind some kind of cue that it's all Epcot, I hope.
