Fire crews found themselves battling to contain a brush fire at the Walt Disney World Resort this past week. The blaze, which flared up in a wooded area between the Fort Wilderness Resort and a Magic Kingdom parking lot, first drew fire crews last Sunday.
Bob Jones, an assistant chief with Reedy Creek Emergency Services, said the fire flared up to 5 acres at one point. Neither the resort or park were in any danger, though the fire did spew a lot of smoke in its immediate vicinity.
Tuesday evening found the fire mostly contained, even after a flare up earlier in the day. According to firefighters, a lightning strike is believed to be the origin of the fire.
