The iconic Sorcerer's Hat at Disney's Hollywood Studios is now surrounded by construction walls and the process of dismantling the hat has started. The most recent photos of the hat show nearly half of the park's former symbol has been removed but there is still quite a bit of hat left to go.
The construction walls went up around the Sorcerer's Hat just before the Walt Disney World Marathon weekend on January 7.
There is no official word from Disney regarding how long the dismantling of the hat would take, or if the big blue hat might find a home in a different location on property.
Once the hat and the construction walls have been removed guests should once again have a clear view of the Chinese Theater, home of The Great Movie Ride. It's certainly going to change the background of photos on Hollywood Boulevard.
You can check out a video of the demolition of the hat in this video. At the time the video was taken only the top portion of that hat had been removed and can be seen near the construction walls.
Are you sad to see the hat go? Are you hoping it will find a new home somewhere else on Disney property? Let us know in the comments.

I will be glad to once again see the Great Movie Ride. Maybe I am too much of a traditionalist, but I felt the hat was intrusive and inappropriate for the yesteryear Hollywood the park is supposed to represent. I do like the hat however, and hope they move it to another location in one of the parks or hotels.

I'm excited to see how they are going to revive the area.
