Disney Reports MyMagic+ System is Working for Guests at Walt Disney World

The Walt Disney Company is reporting that the MyMagic+ system is working for guests on several levels.

During a conference call to discuss the company's fiscal second quarter results, Chief Financial Officer Jay Rasulo told analysts that Disney is "pleased with some of the changes in guest behavior and park dynamics" with regard to MyMagic+.

The company said one of the biggest benefits they're seeing is the increase in the number of guests who are planning their trip details in advance of their vacation.

The benefit to this, according to Disney, is that guests who preplan tend to spend more time on property and less time visiting parks that aren't Disney.

Another advantage of MyMagic+ is the new FastPass+ system which is helping Disney "spread crowds" in the park especially during peak holiday times.

"Because FastPass+, the ability to basically plan your day as it relates to top attractions in the park in advance, has had huge pickup by our guests, it allows a better distribution of guests around the park," Rasulo said during the call. "And quite often the amount of capacity we can let into the park is highly driven by pinch points and particular areas of the park that we don't want to get too overcrowded. So when guests are better distributed around the park, we can let more in."

Disney is reporting that about three-quarters of guests staying on property and one-quarter of the day guests are using MyMagic+.

However the company also noted that profitability will continue to be hampered by spending on MyMagic+. The system fell behind last year and was only recently rolled out to all Disney World guests.
