Disney Updates FastPass+ at Walt Disney World Resort

Disney has updated the FastPass+ service at the Walt Disney World Resort giving guests more flexibility when it comes to planning their FastPass+ selections. The updates also allow guests to choose who is in their "party" for the FastPasses.

The update includes a reworking of the selection process for FastPass+. In order to make selection for FastPass+ guests choose members of their "FastPass+ party" and then select which park they want to visit. By selecting who is in your FastPass+ party you can leave out friends and family who might not want to experience a particular thrill ride.

Then you select a date and time for your visit and the you'll be shown the attractions and times that match your selection.

Here's the big deal: You no longer are forced to choose three attractions for your FastPass+ selections. You can choose one, two, OR three selections. This means more flexibility in your planning!

Guests are still limited to a total of three FastPass+ selection at one park for their initial choices, but if you only want to reserve one FastPass+ selection before you arrive at the theme park, that's OK. You can add the other selections when you arrive at the theme park. (Of course it is still a good idea to book those first three if you're hoping to ride popular attractions, but the flexibility is nice).

Another update to the FastPass+ system: after guests have used their first three selections, they can now use the My Disney Experience app to choose additional selections. No need to visit a FastPass+ kiosk in the parks! And if you have a Park Hopper those additional selections can be made for another park.

If you have the My Disney Experience app on your smartphone you'll need to update the app.

Question...
To get a FastPass+ must you stay on the Disney grounds? Can you just be a visiting a Disney park?

I have been going to Disney my while life and though these adjustments may help some, the old system was better. I think a 3 pass max is not enough and you still have to use those until getting more and for those that park hop this isn't fair because they can't reserve until after so the fast passes are harder to get. The old system was better it allowed easier access to more fast passes. Though the idea of the fastpass+ is nice I still think adjustments need to be made. I used to be able to get to experience so many rides a day with little wait time, it allowed me to get more out of my time. Now you have a harder time because everyone is reserving so far in advance and the 3 fast passes are usually so far apart that it's harder to use them all and still get more.

This may be fine for people who plan their vacations well in advance. However, as a Florida resident who lives 90 miles away and often makes last minute day trips, it is terrible! Same way with dining. I think they should keep a minimum of 25% dining open for walk ups. Rarely do I plan a Disney trip months in advance. I am more of a wake up just go kind of girl.

Michele Webster - Guests not staying on Disney property can book their FasftPass+ reservations begining at 30 days in advance of their trip - they must have ticket media registered to connect those reservations to.
