It's official. Downtown Disney is no more as the shopping, dining, and entertainment district is now Disney Springs. The name change became official on September 29. Construction continues at Disney Springs with more shops and restaurants planned before the project is completed in 2016.
Disney first announced plans to update the former Downtown Disney into Disney Springs back in 2013. And, as with all great Disney attractions, Disney Imagineers developed a storyline for Disney Springs and it begins back in the mid-1800s.
The story behind Disney Springs is that a small settlement started near the natural springs and eventually that settlement grew into a small town. The story of Disney Springs will be brought to life though the architecture, music, and costuming.
In recent months guests have seen the opening of several new restaurants in The Landing, one of the first neighborhoods at Disney Springs. THE BOATHOUSE, Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar, and the brand new Morimoto Asia all call The Landing home.
Guests will also find new shops including The Art of Shaving, Apex by Sunglass Hut, Sanuk, Sound Lion, and Erin McKenna's Bakery NYC.
Other restaurants slated to open soon include Sprinkles cupcake bakery, Blaze Fast-Fire'd Pizza, and The Edison.
