When you're looking for a good place to rest your weary feet and grab a quick bite to eat at the Magic Kingdom, head over to the intersection between Adventureland and Frontierland and stop at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe.
Of course the regulars just call it Pecos Bill's and one of our favorite things about the quick service location is the themeing and decor. Depending on which entrance you use you will either see the "Wild West" signage in Frontierland or the Caribbean-style sign from the Adventureland entrance.
Once inside the restaurant the Wild West side of the restaurant features the dark wood panels of an old West mining town while the Adventureland side features cobblestone floors and a Caribbean decor. It's a subtle nod to both lands and some guests might not notice.
One of the best things about the restaurant is the size of the seating area. There is an ample outdoor seating area that wraps around part of the restaurant and there's also a lot of indoor seating. The indoor area is a bit dark (especially in the "Adventureland side") but it's air conditioned and sometimes that's all that matters.
It should also be noted that Pecos Bill's is one of those quick service locations that always has a crowd. One a recent visit to Pecos Bill's we were eating a very late (for us) dinner at 8:30 at night and the restaurant was quite full. If you can, try to scout out a table while one person in your party heads to the queue to order. (Sometimes, depending on the crowd levels, guests can only sit at tables if they have food so keep that in mind.)
But let's talk about the food. Pecos Bill's is known for burgers, barbecue pork, and of course the taco salad (or as some like to call it "the bowl of meat"). The barbecue pork sandwich or the Karubi style ribs are good choices if you're a barbecue fan, but on my most recent visit I was starving and went for the 1/3 pound Deluxe Angus Cheeseburger.
This might be one of the best quick service burgers I've had on property (which says a lot since I'm not normally a burger fan). Of course I loved the barbecue sauce "enjoy" message with Mickey Mouse ears because who doesn't love magical BBQ messages? The burger itself was topped with onion rings, bacon, cheese, and barbecue sauce which oddly enough was a perfect combination and it needed no other condiments.
Speaking of condiments, one of the things many people love about Pecos Bill's is the "fixins bar" where you can load up on sauteed mushrooms, pickles, and of course hot cheese sauce. This is also where you create your taco salad with lettuce, tomato, shredded cheese, salsa, and more. I will admit that my plate had a small pile of sauteed mushrooms "on the side" after visiting the fixins bar.
The desserts are the typical quick service options: carrot cake in a bowl or chocolate cake in a bowl. Neither is too exciting but they'll do if you need a sweet fix and if you still have room at the end of the meal. (We didn't).
If you have picky kids they might not be too excited with the menu choices for kids: hamburger, barbecue pork sandwich, turkey sandwich, or an Uncrustable. There are no chicken nuggets in sight. And even though the menu features ribs, bowls of meat, and burgers, there is also a vegetarian burger on the menu.
Pecos Bill's is one of my go-to quick service dining options at the Magic Kingdom. You'll always find good food, a great location, and if you plan it right you might even catch a view of the parades from some sections outdoor seating area.
