Merida Set to Become Disney’s 11th Official Princess

On May 11, Merida - the strong-willed red headed princess from Disney/Pixar's Brave " will officially be welcomed into the Disney Princess royal court.

The royal coronation ceremony is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at Cinderella's Castle at the Magic Kingdom. Other royal guests, including Disney's current princesses are expected to attend the ceremony. Guests at the Magic Kingdom will also be able to witness the coronation.

Merida joins Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, and Rapunzel on the roster of official Disney princesses. Tiana was welcomed as an official princess in 2009 at the Magic Kingdom, and Rapunzel celebrated her royal coronation in 2011 at Kensington Palace in London.

Disney/Pixar's Brave was the eighth highest grossing film of 2012, earning $237.3 million in domestic box office sales and winning the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Merida is the first Disney/Pixar character to join the princess ranks. It is being reported that Disney has redesigned her looks for some merchandise so that she matches the traditional Disney princesses.
