The largest, most nerd-tastic convention event is over for another year. Every single fandom saw huge turnouts at San Diego Comic-Con as news, trailers, and panels showcased everything that is on the horizon. This convention was especially important for Star Wars fans and fanatics because this is the first time we have seen the original cast together in almost twenty years.
The original Star Wars cast gathered together with the new cast for an amazing Star Wars panel that did not disappoint. The massive Hall H (it sits 6,000 people) opened up with Star Wars Director; J.J. Abrams, Producer and Lucasfilms President Kathleen Kennedy and the movies writer Lawrence Kasden welcoming everyone to a panel no one was about to forget. The cast of Star Wars: The Force Awakened was introduced as the crowd watched each one get introduced and inked to the character that they would be playing. For the first time, fans were introduced to the Star Wars villains and shown pictures of them in costume. The assemble cast was: Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, John Boyega and Daisy Ridley.
Quickly, let's talk about what we did not get. There is no new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer. This means we are still basically in the dark at the overall plot of this new movie. That being said, the fandom was given so much more to sink their teeth into. First we got a 5 minute, behind the scenes video. Before we go over it, you should take a look...
This compilation of behind the scenes footage is huge. J.J. Abrams showed the audience a movie that is going to marry high end CGI graphics with the practical effects that Star Wars fans have grown to expect from this franchise. Watching this video all the way through, we can see that J.J. Abrams has taken the series back to its roots. During the panel, Abrams stated that he felt it was important to not only include some of the best digital effects but also use tried and true practical effects. What we also saw was a few important cameos by some of your favorite celebrities (Simon Peg for one). Besides this short video, several stills were shown of the Movie with characters, vehicles, etc. All this and we are only 150+ days away from the release.
For those people who were lucky enough to be at the Force Awakens panel, one more incredible surprise awaited them. The crowd of almost 6,000 people were rounded up and taken outside the convention center where the San Diego Symphony Orchestra waited to perform the Jon Williams classic Star Wars score.
I know I am very excited to see the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens. What about you, our readers? This is only the beginning of Disney's newest franchise, are you going to be there opening day? If you're a Star Wars fan, are you excited to share this with your kids? Let us know in the comments.
