The Walt Disney World Resort felt the force of Hurricane Irma Sunday night after the hurricane took a turn and headed north to Orlando. The theme parks were closed Sunday and Monday due to the storm, but the Resort hotels were full of guests riding out the wind and rain.
As of this morning, all four theme parks had reopened. Operating hours for today are: Magic Kingdom 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. (with Extra Magic Hours at 8 a.m.); Epcot 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. (with EMH from 9-11 p.m.); Disney's Animal Kingdom 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.; and Disney's Hollywood Studios from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.
Disney has announced that Kilimanjaro Safaris at the Animal Kingdom will open at 1 p.m. today due to continued hurricane cleanup in the attraction area.
Both water parks remain closed today and will reopen at a later date. Tonight's Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party will take place.
All Disney Resort hotels are operating normally except for Fort Wilderness Campground and Disney's Saratoga Springs Treehouse Villas. Mickey's Backyard BBQ and the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue are also closed today, September 12.
Several other hotels experienced minor damage from fallen trees and tree branches including Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort, and Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter and Riverside. No major damage was reported.
On Sunday and Monday guests at the Resort hotels were reporting via social media that, for the most part, they were doing OK while riding out the storm.
Many hotels had Disney characters visiting guests, food was available in the quick service restaurants and some table service locations, and there was even a pop-up "Hurricane Bar" at Disney's Wilderness Lodge where guest could get hurricanes in souvenir glasses.
