The Resort Hotels of Walt Disney World are known for not only having world-class accommodation, but great food, and a plethora of fun recreational activities. While many Disney fans would argue that Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht and Beach Clubs is the best Disney Resort Pool, you'll find me firmly in the camp of Uzima Springs at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. Read on to learn why I think this wellspring is the perfect place to spend a day poolside.
A Walt Disney World vacation can be a little on the crazy side: there's tons of walking, dodging crowds, getting to your reservations on time, and managing the personalities in your party. That's why it's important to schedule in a non-Park day or two for some rest. After all - this is your vacation! So, when you're choosing a hotel for your trip, why not choose one with a truly fantastic pool.
Uzima Springs represents an isolated oasis on the African Savanna, and does so with plenty of Disney magic. Nestled within the arms of Jambo House, the Uzima Springs pool is a place to gather, rest, and refresh yourself for another day. The giant zero-depth entry lagoon is surrounded by plenty of lounge chairs, a slide, two spas, a kiddie pool, play-ground, savanna viewing area, and its very own flamingo habitat. The dense and colorful landscaping provides plenty of shade as well, something lacking at many Disney Resort Pools.
The off the beaten path nature of Disney's Animal Kingdom, and no pool-hopping rule, adds to the seclusion and uniqueness of this lavish escape. Uzima Springs is exclusively available for the use of Animal Kingdom Lodge Guests, and in my opinion, helps to make this Resort one of the very best for getaways without any Park days planned. A room with a pool view also makes for a pretty great spot to take your morning coffee.
After dark, the Uzima Springs area is where Guests of the Resort can enjoy Movies Under The Stars, and use a pair of night-vision goggles to check out the animals from the overlook. Plus, the small spa is open until midnight for a post-Park soak.
When it comes to lounging by the pool, Uzima Springs excels in easy access to food. The Mara is just steps away to grab a quick service meal, or you can wet your whistle with a cocktail from the Uzima Pool Bar. Just outside the pool gate, this open-air retreat offers a scattering of umbrella shaded tables. The bartenders here are always friendly and hidden up beneath that beautifully sculptured thatched roof is flat-screen TV. Just in case you're hoping to catch a game while the rest of your party splashes in the water. The bar also has a phone that you can use to have private dining delivered to you poolside.
