Breakfast options

A question on breakfast - I had a look making ADRs for our stay, but the earliest breakfast options were all around 0830 or later. Are there other breakfast options out there? We're planning on staying at AKL - I was hoping for a lounge or cafe that would do a walk in breakfast.

Cheers,
Helen

Helen, I think Boma is your best bet for breakfast at AKL. It opens at 7:30 but it's fairly popular. It might be the case that people have just taken up all the early reservations. You can always snag something at the Mara, although I'd grab Boma if you can get it.

Find a way into Boma! Check out the front page for the column jason and I did on the restaurant, I hate it for dinner, but love it for breakfast.

If you don't need a full breakfast, you can always grab something in the parks. We tend to get muffins or other yummy breakfast goodies right when we get to parks and it tends to work out.

I think alot of the restaurants are open earlier than 8:30 if I remember right, we did Chef Mickey's at 7:45 one time, but don't quote me on that. Maybe the ADR's are just full, are you going at a busy time?

All the food courts, ie Mara are open that early for sure.

If you are in a slow season, just walk up to Boma, you'll probably get in fairly quickly. We did that in Jan once and waited 2 minutes, and maybe 15 in Feb during President's Week.

I've been messing around with the restaurant reservations search a bit more...If I enter "Boma" and "Breakfast", the earliest option it returns is 9am. If I enter "6:30am", then I get a 7:30 option, yay! *phew* I was just a touch worried for little bit.

@caitiesus I did see your article! I've very curious to try the food now. I suspect we'll both be more on Jason's side of the fence though.

@cdub, @katrina Can you tell me a bit more about Mara? Is it in the AK?

Thanks for your help!,
Helen

Mara is AKL's food court, it's downstairs near the pool.

As Katrina said it's down by the pool and it's relatively unexciting compared to Boma in my opinion, so I'm glad you got an ADR. I will say it's more interesting than the quick-service options at some of the other resorts though. You can get zebra domes there!

The only breakfasts we have done were Boma (fantastic!) and POR for Mickey Waffles. Otherwise, we either have Pop-Tarts or Cheerios so as to not slow us down for rope drop!!

Boma is great but if you are looking for a casual breakfast there are places all over the parks and at the Mara has some great food as well. Also, if you are in for a treat go to Captain Hooks at the Poly and get some Tonga Toast..yum!

I heard about the zebra domes - *must try*, but tonga toast is a first! Sounds like fun biggrin

I saw a bakery somewhere but I've lost it again...possibly in MK? All these little details sneak away from me...

Will check out Mara when we're in AK, zebra domes! *squee*

There are also coffee and pastry stands in various places...in Epcot, MK for sure, between the ferry launch and monorail at TTC, and outside of Epcot. The Contemporary has a nice espresso bar and the Poly's Kona Cafe is legendary.

I think Sleep Hollow in MK might have something, and there is a bakery on Main St, although I don't know how well stocked they are for breakfast. That's a big lament - not enough breakfast items in the parks for those of us who don't want to sit down. I'm a muffin and coffee girl myself Smile

If you'd like to venture off property (I know, I know...) there's a Panera nearby with lovely breakfast sandwiches, pastries and good coffee.

We're big bakery fans...I've even got a list of gourmet doughnut shops in a variety of places across the US to try, if we happen to be in the right place Smile

Helen don't forget the best donut shops in the world as far as I am concerned KK (Krispy Kreme) I muchlove them so much that I even bought shares in the Company. Boy I hope this is not construed to be spamming eek.I live in NH and there is not one within 100 miles of me, so when I travel I am forever on the hunt for them. Make sure the HOT light is on when you stop because that is when they are at their best, they literally melt in your mouth.

Vettelover - for future reference, there's a beautiful KK store by Mall at Millennia, and one of the old stores at the corner of International Speedway Blvd and Nova Rd (I think!), in Daytona just in case you didn't know. Love the old stores especially...they always remind me of summer vacations as a kid! Yum!

@Vettelover - there's a few KK stores here in Australia. I once booked a Perth flight via Sydney (rather than Melbourne which is shorter) in order to pick up KK doughnuts! biggrin

One of the original KK stores is in Roanoke, Va. I went to college an hour south of it. They make their donuts in the middle of the night and come off the line warm and gooey. We used to go at 3am on the weekends for them!

KK has fallen on hard times in a lot of places. I've been really surprised. Clearly they over-expanded. I still enjoy them though!
