Design your own Disney Radio Station...

I've spent the last few days listening to a few of the online Disney radio sites. They are pretty cool, and you get that sense of "being there" because this is normally not music that you hear every day. (unless you are at Disney!)

So, as an exercise, lets design our own Disney online radio station. What are the things YOU'D like to see included. It could be music, features, interviews, fan quotes, whatever.

Let's be realistic, but also imagine that there are no boundaries.

I'll start.

To me there is NOTHING like watching one of the parades at a Disney park. The music is perfect for what they're doing, and everytime I hear a parade them I not only have memories, but I really enjoy it.

First thing I'd do on my Disney online radio station would be to have "Parade time" a couple of times daily. At those times, I'd play current or classic parade music from the Disney parks.

Ideas?

I had a lot of the vinyl records from the old Disney movies. Pretty much every song off of there would have to be on my station. Music from Sleeping Beauty and Robin Hood spring to mind.

I just want to hear ride soundtracks ALL THE TIME. I love when those stations play the whole Horizons ride, World of Motion, Spaceship Earth, Philharmagic... I just sit back, work on the computer, and pretend I'm riding through the ride.

I also love when they play the Illuminations music! Smile

One thins I HATE is when they play the teenie-bopper covers of old Disney songs. If I hear Hillary Duff sing Cruella Deville...I'm out. Wink

Love the parade music idea. Also, I concur about the pop music covers. I would also be happy to leave out modern stuff like High School Musical entirely.

I would like to hear classic Disney interviews and live recordings (such as those from grand openings).

Agreed -- I don't need to hear High School Musical, Camp Rock, or anything from the Disney Channel (except maybe the hot dog song from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. that's just cool.)

I love the idea of Disney interviews and live recordings. They're uncovering a lot of video of speeches from animators, imagineers, and former Disney execs that might be interesting to listen to.

Finally I agree that the ride soundtracks and parades are great, but I also need a little mix of park music. The Epcot background music, Wilderness Lodge background music, Magic Kingdom background music...you don't realize it until you hear it on a radio station, but those tracks bring you back to WDW like nothing else. It's the stuff that only your subconscious hears, so when you hear it when you're at home, you're just transported. mickey

Oh, one more thing: No need to play a lot of contemporary movie music -- Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid stuff is not what I care to listen to. But I DO want to hear old movie music -- Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Mary Poppins, etc. biggrin

No boundaries, eh?

In that case, I'd like to get playlists from all the great imagineers (who are alive today--as you said it has to be realistic, too). I think it'd be really cool to listen to Joe Rhode's favorite Disney tracks/rides/etc.

On the list:
Haunted Mansion
PotC
Illuminations
The tunes from "Oklahoma" that they play on Main Street

Off the list:
Any Tween Stuff
It's A Small World (I actually kind of love the song, but I've heard it enough. I had it on vinyl when I was younger)

@SpaceAce VERY cool idea about the imagineers interviews.

There are some good Disney stations at Shoutcast.com.

The one I'm listening to just played the Space Mountain queue music and is now playing music from the Polynesian. Previous station I listened to was cool, but some of the parades were rough. Felt like I was a CM walking what felt like a hundred miles in the parade on a hot summer South Florida day, rather than a guest watching it go by. The Pixar Play! Parade is about the longest Disney 'thing' I've ever heard. That thing has got to be longer than some Disney movies...sheesh.

I'm going to have to confess that I'm not familiar with that parade. "Pixar Play!"

I wasn't either. Apparently it's at DCA. I liked the second station I listened to much better. It had all the good stuff without the 'duds'. I listened to it for several hours.

I run my home PC through a decent sized amp with speakers, and last night I went home and cranked up the volume and listened to the Main Street Electrical Parade audio.

XM (before the merger with Sirius) used to play the Beatles at the top of every hour on their 60's channel.

I think on the MT Radio Station, we'll take a RIDE at the top of every hour.

You could do your ID at the top of the hour (like regular broadcast), followed by the voice track of getting on a ride.

I have a few monorail clips, and NOTHING takes me to Disney World like hearing that voice welcoming me to the monorail system.

"Please stand clear of the dooooorssssss....."

That's another good reason to always go to MK first. You get the buildup of riding the Monorail in, which I totally agree is one of the strongest associations with WDW.
