Did you know?

Walt Disney's maternal grandparents (Charles and Henrietta Call) are buried about 50 miles north of Walt Disney World in Paisley, FL. His parents were married not far from there in Kismet, FL (which does not exist today).

The Kismet hotel looks really nice. Shame it's abandoned now.

Very interesting. I don't think I realized he had such close ties to FL. How did you come across the info?

I found it on a website called findagrave.com. I did a search on Walt Disney. His memorial page had links to his parents' pages and then from there I went to grandparents' pages.

This probably sounds really weird but when I was a kid there was a book series called Sleepover Friends and they went on a trip to Florida and visited Kismet. Ha! I had no idea Walt's parents were buried there. I wonder if that is why he chose Florida for WDW? As fast as Florida is developing I wonder if Kismet will be reborn..or if it's somewhere else now?

More trivia...found on Ancestry.com

Walt's oldest brother, Herbert, was born in Florida. The other four siblings were born in Chicago.

When the 1920 census was taken, 27 year old Roy and 18 year old Walt were living with Herbert and his wife & daughter.

In 1920 Walt turned 19 and joined the Order of DeMolay in Kansas City. I'm not sure about his brothers, Herbert would have been to old, but not Roy. At that point in time the order was directed towards young men who didn't have a father around due to the war. Walt was the 107th member of the original DeMolay Chapter and had great respect for it's founder "Dad Land". Walt Disney credited DeMolay with giving him a strong foundation and teaching him how to be a better man.

"Later in DeMolay, I learned to believe in the basic principle of the right of man to exercise his faith and thoughts as he chooses. In DeMolay, we believe in a supreme being, in the fellowship of man, and the sanctity of the home. DeMolay stands for all that is good for the family and for our country." ~Walt Disney

He is considered one of the premier members of the organization.

oh wow! so neat! Its says it was a part of Lake County (the hotel was moved to Eustins)... which is where my family lives! I go there multiple times a year.. must go on a hunt for their graves when I am there next time!

And if anyone else wants to venture there, there is a CUTE little town called Mt. Dora about 5 minutes away that has the neatest downtown with cute, original shops, resturaunts, and the greatest tea room!
