Disney Springs Construction

I've heard rumors that construction walls are going with around Downtown Disney so that the first stages of Disney Springs can get under way. Walls are up on Pleasure Island and some demolition is expected to take place.

I'm curious to know how the construction will interrupt the guest experience there. Will it keep you from going?

Aw man, I hope this is substantially done by our trip next year! It's been a LONG time since I've been to Downtown Disney and it would be a bummer to have it under construction! sad

It's not scheduled to be completed until 2016, but I'm not sure how much they're doing at once.

Blarg. Hopefully they'll do it in small enough chunks that we will barely notice it then. So, to answer the question, no it won't stop us from going there. I NEED to try Earl of Sandwhich on our next trip!

Disney isn't wasting any time, this time around. I have never been to DTD but I will be going this year because I have ressies at Wolfgang Puck's Cafe in October.

Hopefully it won't mess up too much of the main marketplace area right now. My mom is going to Kissimmee for a work thing next weekend and I'm begging her to go to DTD and try Earl of Sandwich (and Ghiradelli!) and I don't want her to be annoyed by anything when I recommend something to her. laugh

Has anyone been in DTD recently? How's the construction coming?

I wish they would just finish one area before moving on. Can't wait for a visit to Magic Kingdom with no walls, and I am not just talking Fantsyland. Can't remember the last time I had a construction free visit.

There are some walls up where the Curl store was on PI. It has moved to the West Side down. The walls are on both sides. That's the only construction I've seen.

When I was little the rule was that guests did not see such unseemly things. If it needed to be fixed, painted, polished, or have additions it happened overnight. I haven't figured out how things moved from that to "cover it with a tarp" but it's annoying.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love additions and that they keep things fresh. But they used to do it all super quickly so that it didn't disturb the guest. It doesn't seem like that is such a priority anymore.

From what I saw of the plans in the news, the construction should be almost entirely on the West Side, so those who are visiting the main Downtown Disney side (on the other side of Pleasure Island) should not even notice anything. At most a little of Pleasure Island would be affected.
