How much does the view from your hotel room matter to you? Do you tend to upgrade at the resort so that you have a nicer view, or do you think all views are created equal and just go for the lowest price ?

In FQ there is Standard, Garden and River. We have tried all three and I think we are out of the room so much that it doesn't matter. When stayed at the Animal Kingdom Resort for 2 nights and we paid to get a savannah view. We were gone so much we felt it wasn't worth it . Then again I am always trying to save a dollar so I can enjoy Disney more, I might stay in a cheaper room but use the beach or Castle viewing area to watch the fireworks.
Until our last trip in May, I would have said it doesn't matter. We've had pool, garden, and parking lot views, and I never really cared all that much. Then we stayed at POP, and got the lake/fireworks view, without having to pay for a preferred view. If we ever stay there again, even if it's an upgrade, we will ask for the same location. Watching the Star Wars fireworks on May 4th and Illuminations every night from our balcony just made the trip so much more special.

Time marches on. Eventually you realize it's doing it across your face.
We deffinatley go for the view. We spend time in the room on the balcony, in the morning drinking coffee , or at night watching the fireworks with a drink or a beer, even in the afternoon just for some down time if we need it.
I don't want a parking lot view.
Unless there is a HUGE discount applying only to a parking lot view, I'm not interested.
Another thing I like is a room on an upper level.
( elevator access please)
Before, I would've said no because we did not spend lots of time in the room. After staying at the boardwalk with a view of DHS fireworks, I've changed my mind! I will take the view!
We are hardly in the room at all, and if we are there, we're sleeping so the view doesn't matter. However, if we ever stay at BLT or contemporary, I want the MK view!

Same here, view isn't important unless there is an option of an MK view! We had what was considered to be one of the worst views at WL, but it was lovely and quiet so it didn't bother me at all!

I really love a water view, but I don't always feel like spending the extra money/points on it. Sometimes I upgrade, sometimes I don't.
I agree with the others, it depends on what the view is. If I was at a monorail resort I'd spring for an MK view and if I was at AKL I'd go for the savannah view. Other then that I'll take the standard and save the money.

If we ever stay at the Contemporary or Bay Lake, I'll want a Magic Kingdom view. Likewise, at Animal Kingdom Lodge I'll want a savannah view. Otherwise I don't really care about the view. I'm going to spend most of my time in the parks anyway.
We do usually go for a view. As Mrhub said we do spend time on our balcony. Like Kristen, I love a water view. After staying at the Contemporary I would rather book the lake view than the theme park view. The parking lot and the traffic took a lot away from the theme park view for me.
No. If I end up with a nice view it's a bonus but I'm not going pay extra to get a nice view.

For serious! At the Contemporary I think I would have to be on a really high floor to enjoy the MK View - otherwise I know myself enough to know I would kvetch about the parking lot and Geordon would want to strangle me the entire time.
Confession time, I really did not care much for the fireworks from there either. It still beat being in the crowd and then waiting for the crowds to die down before leaving the park though.
Last year at POFQ we had a standard view and it was fine. If they had balconys there I would probably spring for the river view....but such they don't it's not worth the extra cost to me. As Allie said, in AKL we would get the savanna view .
I have a garden view at POFQ reserved for my trip.
Not enough to pay extra especially since I don't spend a lot of time in my room. I'm going for 15 nights/16 days at the end of January/beginning of February staying at Pop Century & without a discount & with tax my room is costing me $1666. If I were to change that to AKL assuming I paid the lowest value season rate for a standard room of $279 that same $1666 would get me 5.97 nights & that's before taxes are added. Upgrade to a Savanna view room at the lowest value season rate of $358 & that same $1666 will let me stay for 4.65 nights before taxes are added. I would much rather be able to spend 15 nights & stay at Pop Century than to stay at AKL & only be able to spend 4 or 5 nights, maybe 6.
It's hard to justify the price difference for the view, in my opinion. I can't remember what the difference was for a savannah view at AKL when we go in Nov (by renting point), but I figure there will be common areas where we can see the animals, so we'll just have to go to the animals instead of them coming to us!!
Breaking tradition!
Well most of you know, Scrappy and I are BIG Poly lovers. Well with the 35% discount out and all the construction going to be happening at the Poly by January, we just broke tradition and booked a week in the Grand Floridian. This is the first time remember Disney not offering a discount for the regular TPV rooms. We could have booked a CL, but we really didn't want that and we were afraid the construction would hinder our view, and that is a biggie for us, THE VIEW!.
Wooh! A week at GF?! Sounds amazing!

Wow, the GF - that sounds amazing. We'll definitely meet you guys there for a drink!
I think you'll like the Grand Floridian! I really loved my stay there and found it totally magical.
I do like the idea of looking out my window to see giraffes and such while enjoying my morning or evening coffee or looking over the magic kingdom at night.
It's not as important to me as pool location and location to main dining and buses.

I usually get a standard room at Pop which is fine for me. The last two years I was able to see the fireworks from my room.

I'm always really conflicted as to if I want a savanna view or not. AKL is our DVC home resort and it really depends on what floor I'm on as to if I think the savanna view is worthwhile. If I'm on the 2nd or 3rd floor I really enjoy the savanna view - however up on the 5th or 6th and it's not always so spectacular. Having to step out onto the balcony and look down through the treetops just seems to be besides the point to me. I really like staying at Jambo house, and usually ask for a pool view. If we're at Kidani though I will do savanna and ask for a lower floor.
