Doorway to Dreams Centers In NY and IL Closing

Later this year the Long Island Doorway to Dreams sales center will follow its Chicago counterpart in saying good-bye.

Disney Vacation Club, which is based in Celebration, says it will close its "Doorways to Dreams" sales center on New York's Long Island on Nov. 3.

The move comes a few weeks after Disney announced plans to shutter its other sales center, in suburban Chicago. That location, the first Disney Vacation Club sales center to open away from Walt Disney World, will shut down Sept. 14.

Disney Vacation Club also operates a sales center at Tokyo Disney in Japan, which is a key market for Aulani, Disney's hotel and time share in Hawaii.

I'm so sad to hear that DVC is closing the two Doorway to Dreams remote sales locations in Chicago and New York. I have loved being able to stop in and talk to my Guide at the Chicago branch any time that I want to. It created a closer bond between me and DVC that I don't think I'll be able to replace. sad

Did they say why they were closing them?

Just this is on DVCNews.com

"Earlier this summer a Disney Vacation Club spokesperson told DVCNews.com that the Chicago Doorway to Dreams closure would allow DVC to "focus on other business initiatives.""

As I've mentioned in the other thread, I'm not exactly surprised by this. The economic slowdown has severely cut back on the rates that DVC points are being sold at these locations. Couple that with the recent "house cleaning" inside the DVC administration, and one can see a re-evaluation of many of the DVC priorities.

BTW, speaking of things changing and closing, did everyone here know that Deevy See is also gone? The official story is that Deevy has "retired" and gone back to Wisconsin. So that character is no longer around for the various DVC events and Welcome Home Wednesdays.

Long Live Deevy See!

Ohhh... I didn't realize that Deevy was gone. Luckily, the actress has many other characters that she plays around the property. We've found her in Italy, and at the Haunted Mansion for the Halloween Party. I hope we continue to see her around!

From what I've found out, the cast member is still around. She assumes various characters at the many Pin Celebration events in the past, and I'm assuming that we'll see her in a few weeks when the same event takes place.
