Extinct Attraction Revival Fantasy Thread

Our discussion about the Swan Boats last week got me reminiscing.

If you could revive one extinct attraction and experience it one more time before it goes back to that Theme Park in the sky again, what would it be?

I've said it before and I'll say it again--Horizons. I loved that attraction and I have NO idea why!

I did too, but I loved World of Motion even more.

I don't know why either, but maybe we love them because they remind us of a simpler time?

I love the attractions that replaced these attractions for the most part, but it's tough to know that something you loved is gone forever.

I would love to re-experience 20,000 Leagues under the sea, and those submarines.

A popular choice I'm sure.

Does it have to be an attraction?

I would LOVE to be able to see Tapestry of Nations again. In my book, this is THE best parade that I've ever seen at WDW. Only Mickey's Jammin' Jungle Parade come close to the elements that was in Tapestry. And to this day, I think "Tapestry of Nations" (and not the bastardized "Tapestry of Dreams") is THE BEST Disney music ever, EVER, EVER, EVER!

Great choice Z. I'd love to see it again too. I can see where you draw the comparison to Mickey's Jungle Jammin' Parade too, with the puppetry and paegentry that it featured. The whole idea of Epcot parades is something I still get nostalgic for.

Also regarding extinct parades, I'd love to see Aladdin's Royal Caravan Parade again, which ran at Disney MGM Studios in the mid 90s. Not that it was any more special than so many other daytime parades, but just because it featured many of my favorite characters, and it brings back great memories.

This may be an odd one, but I'd love to go through the old Eastern Airlines "If You Had Wings" attraction in Tomorrowland again.

Not odd at all! In fact, it's one of the most vivid memories I have of my earliest trips to WDW as a small kid. I can still hear the song in my head!

It's interesting to note that Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin utilizes the same exact 'omnimover' track that If You Had Wings used. They didn't change the route at all.

I think If You Had Wings was a prototype and in a way a foreshadow, of newer, more technologically advanced stimulator type rides, like Soarin' and, to a lesser degree, Mission:Space.

The Skyway to Tomorrowland, if that's the one you mean.

I'd like to ride that again too. It was so funny seeing the bland, very 'unmagical' looking rooftops of Fantasyland! laugh

I think it's really cool to see wide angle shots of the park. I'm not sure that that would be my first pick, but I wish they hadn't closed those in every single theme park everywhere!

I was thinking the same thing. That song has been floating around my head the last 30 minutes or so since I posted.

Also, that attraction had a certain "retro charm" to it, with the video looking like something you would have seen on 'Wonderful World of Color' in the 60's.

As a side note, I was in Cracker Barrel tonight and suddenly heard "Its A Small World" playing in the store area. They have that little unit up front where they feature primarily off the wall, country artists but right now one of the CD's for sale is a Walt Disney music one.

I would have never thought of the skyway, but that actually sounds pretty fun. Those really did wind up getting closed down at just about every park I know of. Did too many people fall out?

Regarding the Skyway, I know an older Disney employee fell to his death from it shortly before it was shut down and removed.

For the sake of the children, I'm hoping "hoochies" is analogous to "thingies" eek

I'd also have to throw in 'Mr Toads', which I always found charming, and the Mickey Mouse Review, which was sort of replaced by Mickey's Philharmagic.

Yes, Mickey Mouse Revue played in the Fantasyland Theatre, where Mickey's Philharmagic plays now. Magic Journeys and The Legend of the Lion King was there in between.

Interestingly enough, The Mickey Mouse Revue is still playing in Tokyo Disneyland. Later this year it will close though, to be replaced by....you guessed it....Mickey's Philharmagic.

That's too bad. I always like when they keep a particular attraction alive somewhere.

mickey Have to agree with, If You Had Wings. My neighbor was an eastern airlines pilot, back then in the day. I loved the song, and that big rush of air toward the end of the ride, like you were speeding up, maybe take off mickey . The Biggest, Best, thing that I would like to do one more time is to go through the Penny Arcade for 24 hrs, with all the neccessary change in hand. I miss those games, I truly wonder where they have all gone. Thanks for the memories.

It's interesting, a lot of those kind of games actually wind up in private hands. I actually knew a guy who had a few stand up games like that in his apartment. Hopefully they don't get destroyed, that would be dreadful.

I remember the penny arcade. I would like to ride the submarines one more time. That said though, it would be a great time to bring back Captain Eo.

I'm envious that you got to ride the submarines at all. I assume that was at Disneyland?

I remember 20,000 Leagues from when I was a kid - I remember being claustrophobic and afraid of the octopus (squid?). I wonder how I'd be now...?

Probably claustrophobic, but not so in awe of the tentacled creature. silly
