A general tip about the Florida

Perhaps you are unfamiliar with the greater Orlando area. Well here is just a general tip that you may not know & may help with the overall planning of your trip. Right now, down here, it's stinking hot! I hope you feel enlightened.

LOL, it's warm here today in London too, but still not warm enough in the evenings to sit out without a cardigan on

LoL... allow me to expand on that just a touch.

I live in Northern Illinois and it gets stinking hot here, but what we don't have is that oppressive humidity! It's wet hot down there right now... stepping into a steam room with the bright sun beating down on you hot. If I never go to WDW in June again, I think I'm ok with that. What scares me is that it's ONLY JUNE... and it's just going to get hotter for the next two months.

I know that I've always kvetched that I need to move to Florida, but after this trip I'm honestly not sure if I would survive.

I don't know how people stand it there in the summer. And we used to live in Phoenix! I think I'd take the dry excessive heat over the excessive humidity, though it's a close call.

I would like to strongly encourage everyone to stay away for the immediate future, at least three or four months. You have to know I am only thinking of your safety.

See the heat is clearly getting to me. Why else would I have posted this 3 times? Or have referred to it as "The Florida." Trust me folks, stay away.

Well, J, I am not listening to your advice. I will see you Floridians in less than 48 hours. biggrin

But honestly, I would totally come down in months other than these if my day job allowed. Have to follow that school calendar. mickey

Hold the door....I'm coming down!

I'm with you on this one Disney Doc. Any day in Disney beats a day at work regardless of the weather.

Your not scaring me either, I need my Disney fix and I'll go through hell and high water to get it, so if you see a hairy , 52 year old man, in a speedo carrying a Mai Tai around at the Clown pool at BWV or the Contemporary pool, that will be me! biggrin banana oh yeah, I might be dancing too!

J thanks for the public service announcement. My brother lives in FL and I NEVER EVER visit him in the summer. Of course if the heat and humidity would melt the excess fat I would definitely consider it. Nah not even on a bet.

Hi there! I know this is off topic but I have a question about Disney resorts. I have a family of 7 with two adults and 5 girls. So because we have such a large family we are never able to stay at Disney resorts sad without getting two rooms which cost way to much. So do any of you guys know if there are any good resorts that could fit all of us?

It was 3 degrees above freezing in my part of Australia this morning.

Lots of jealousy induced swear words would be heading your way if I didn't adore you all so much Tongue

welcome Bergen!!!

That is quite a family!

I have only stayed offsite once, at the Wyndham Grand Orlando Bonnet Creek, which is not technically on property owned by Disney, but it is surrounded by Disney owned property.

Have you ever thought about renting Disney Vacation Club points? This would allow you to stay on property in a deluxe resort for a more reasonable price than paying cash for the same room. It would also give you all of the perks of staying onsite, like Extra Magic Hours and access to the dining plan.

I have never rented points, but I am sure that others here can give you some insight. I do know that David's Disney Vacation Club Point Rental is reputable. www.dvcrequest.com I believe that he rents the points for about, on the high end, $15/point, sometimes a lot lower. You would have to check to see, you might find a bargain!

If you were to choose one of the resorts that takes the fewest amount of points, it would be Old Key West or Boardwalk. Animal Kingdom is low also, even lower if you can get one of the small value rooms, but it sounds like you need the space. All 2 bedroom sleep 8, some sleep 9, and have full kitchens and washer/dryer and 2 bathrooms, at least.

I chose a week, Oct. 19 - 26, 2013. Old Key West is 232 points and Boardwalk Standard View is 231 points for the 2 bedroom.

Just an FYI, 2 studios (studios sleep 4 and have a kitchenette, no laundry though) would only be 156 points, but they won't be adjoining.

Hi Bergen!

7 is a tough one! Renting DVC point is an option, but the number of points needed is still going to add up to a lot of money. I just don't think you're going to find something for seven that's under $300 a night, and in that case adjoining rooms at one of the Value Resorts are about the same amount of money.

Have you ever considered renting a Vacation Home? I stayed off site with Global Resort Homes and it had more than enough space for your crew. Staying off property has it's downsides and didn't turn out to be something that I enjoyed. However, I think that the space of having a full house and all of it's amenities absolutely had benefits and would be fantastic for many families. http://www.globalresorthomes.com/

What a bunch of whimps! I have been to WDW in every month of the calendar and the only time it was a bit uncomfortable was when I had to wear a jacket. Of course I live in south Florida.
Beats shoveling snow.

Thank you Kristen and WDWfanatic for your awesome tips. I will look in the DVC points because that is something we might consider!I wish it just wasn't so expensive because I know my girls would love to experience staying onsite at Disney!

Mr. Hub, please let us know when exactly you will be at the pool in your speedo...I think we are busy at that time, and you're NOT carrying around any Mai Tai that we buy you!
Oh your poor friends... laugh

How many people do the value suites at Art of Animation sleep? Would they be any good?

See folks, more reason to stay away till about September. Don't worry. Disney will still be here. I will monitor in closely for you all.

A red speedo! laugh

That was hilarious - I love the looks on the faces of some of the bystanders.
