Have you used your DVC points to go anywhere but Disney properties?

I know there are so many places you can go with DVC points -- have you guys gone anywhere but Disney resorts with your points?

Also, does anyone know if you can use your points for Disney Destinations trips?

Someone must use the non-WDW places, but I don't know who. Everyone I know wishes they had more points so they could go to WDW more often.

I'd think it would require unusual circumstances -- Say someone didn't want to travel so far or something, but there must be enough people to justify building all those places. I wouldn't mind going to Hawaii though!

It does make me curious. They do have a ton of other places to go with DVC points. Do you think that most of the people staying there are paying cash?

I use my points at Vero every year for a long weekend with the family.

We usually get 2 studios or Inn rooms.

I plan on trading my points this year with someone I met on MO. Hoping to go to a place I can't get with my other timeshares.

I definetely plan on using my points in Hawaii's KoOlina resort when it opens.

I'd use my points at National Harbor also if they'd put a resort there.

Maybe one day I'll also go to Disneyland when I can convince someone to go with me.

As far as trading my points with RCI, forget it. They are not gonna get one single little point from me. It's just too expensive to trade with them your DVC points. The value they give you in return just isn't there.

The concensus of DVC owners is to use your points at Disney properties in the DVC system and not use them for other Disney hotels or exchanging. Even Disney cruises is a poor use of points. I would consider using my points at Poly or GF for a special occasion though.

I think they make it "not worth it" to use them a lot of other places on purpose, eh?

Chris -- WEren't they toying with doing something big at National Harbor?

I think they do. They just use all those options as a sales aid to get you to buy in at developer prices. If I had to do it over again, I'd buy resale and smaller contracts.

Disney owns the land at National Harbor and they are up to something but no one is sure if the plans include a DVC resort or just a hotel. It seems they are following in Wyndham's path of expanding the resorts. I'm glad they are as the more options the better IMO.

If they made a regular hotel and didn't make it available to DVC members, wouldn't the DVC-ers get a little miffed?

Oh I'm sure they'd make it available to DVCers but it would probably be an outrageous amount of points just making it not worth it like they do with Poly and GF. With my little points package I'd only get 1 or 2 nights at the GF or Poly with no view. Just so not worth it except for maybe a very very special occasion. It's between 70 to 170 points a night. I've only got 150 points so it's a no go for the Hotels for me.

I hope they make it a DVC resort; I can't see non-DVC members using a resort that far from any parks all that often (except, of course, the Hawaii one!!).

I can't wait to find out what they do there...
