How can we keep cool at Magic Kingdom?

We are going to MK this weekend which is still during the hot and peak season. We just got some seasonal passes (woot) so Im not too concerned about trying to do everything. I'll have a 5 year old with me so kind of wondering what types of things would be best for keeping us cool. Unfortunately we won't be there until about 3:00pm and not staying in a resort.

Lots and lots of water. We always carry our own in, and if we need to fill it up... we just go to a water fountain and fill up.

I agree with spacing out the a/c attractions - Hall of Presidents, Carousel of Progress, Pirates of the Caribbean...and hydrate. There are also nice shady spots all over Magic Kingdom, and the People Mover in Tomorrowland normally has little to no line, and is shaded and offers a nice breeze.

Welcome to the Boards, by the way! Are you local?

Thanks! I'm so glad to have found these boards.

I'm kind of local. I'm on the beach side about an hour and a half away. Smile

We're semi locals too, just N of Tampa in Land O Lakes. It's a little over an hr for us, not too bad, we're used to it. This summer we were there at least twice a week and had a blast! You will LOVE your annual passes, we get 10x our money's worth with how much we go. We pack food and drinks in a cooler, and eat when we switch parks, we could never afford to eat there all the time. We only eat there on special occasions, but do find $ in the budget for a Dole Whip, usually at the Polynesian. It's so cool to pretend we are on vacation with everyone else, but be home for dinner (usually we stick something in the crock pot for when we get home late to eat dinner), and sleep in our own beds.

I agree with the idea of a walk through the shops or a ride on PoTC. All excellent ideas!

OMG Julie my dream life!! You and Lizzy B need to adopt me. biggrin

I'm so psyched for tomorrow! I plan to try my firs Dole Whip and cream cheese pretzel, lol. We're gonna go later around 3:00 since it's open till 11:00, that way my little one can see the fireworks. We're just gonna take it easy too. Ride a few rides but I'm mostly gonna explore stuff I've never seen.

I figure the crowds die off in a few weeks and I'll just ride the biggest rides then. I'm even thinking of going back with my 5 year old son and 17 year old daughter on Sunday and strictly touring some of the resorts just to walk. I'm on a diet ( rofl, breaking that one tomorrow!) so trying to exercise more. My hubby thinks I'm nuts to drive that far just for a walk, lol. But I have wanted to check out the Polynesian resort since I was a child. I didn't know until gently that you were allowed to go and walk and shop. Plus I've always wanted to take one of those little boats across the lake. Is it weird I'm more excited for Sunday? Lol too bad you can't swim there (though I can see why).

Is yours an annual pass or seasonal?

P.s. Im in Melbourne so we're right across from each other. You west coast and me east.

On another note....I have a friend in another state I met online 5 years ago when my son was born. Both our kiddos have some medical issues and we've chatted for years. Her daughter's issues are far more serious than my sons. Sad She's not dying but it is life threatening. Anyhoo, she just got granted a wish and they got into Orlando today so I will get to officially meet them tomorrow! I am SOOO excited for them. They stay at a special resort, got a ton of spending money, 3 days at Disney, plus Universal and Sea World all paid for. AND......they don't have to wait in any lines!! It just makes me tear up with joy that her sweet little girl will get that. Smile

How funny, we will have to meet sometime!

we have annual passes, we are both teachers so we go a lot in the summer, which is blocked out some w the seasonal. Mike figured it out and the regular annual is a better deal dollarwise.

One of our favorite things to do is go resort hopping, especially during Christmas, it's incredible. We spend a lot of time at Boardwalk, we love the atmosphere, especially at night, then the back entrance to EPCOT is right there.

The only downside is we rarely stay there or eat there. I guess it's an even trade, since we get to go so much, but I would love to try some of the great food, we just can't afford to do it often. I would like to stay there too, the resorts are awesome, and we've stayed at a few, just can't do it very often. For now we have to be happy visiting for a few hours. You can eat, shop and hang out, we've never been asked for room id and don't feel guilty. We always use the transportation, usually monorail and boats. When we are going to EPCOT and don't feel like taking the tram, we park at Boardwalk in the self parking/employee lot and walk through boardwalk to to the back entrance.

It's really nice to have passes when family or friends come down. The only thing is we don't usually spend the whole day there, and when they have a day pass, they want to see everything which is exhausting.

We did a lot of rope drops this summer, which is the way to do all the big rides with no wait (I learned this here). One day Mike and Riley left early, did all the big things at all four parks and were home by 2:00! It was Riley's daddy disney day and they had a blast!
There's lots more tips for passholders, and you'll figure things out on your own too. Ask me anything, I do tend to write long posts, I'm a teacher so I'm very verbal!
