I Dreamed A Dream..

Wow...Last night I met friends who have just returned from two weeks at WDW...This was their second trip. First time was five years ago when their little girl was only three and this was kept as a last minute surprise, (she's now eight)..So what happened..Well in 2009 they stayed at POFQ and they had a wonderful time...So this time they downgraded to a value, stayed at " All Stars " ..Now for me, any disney resort vacation would be magic but it wasn't for them..They didn't like the resort, for quite a few reasons, the weather wasn't that good, their choice of restaurants ( ADRS ) were disappointing,etc,etc..So all in all, it wasn't a magical return..I felt sorry for them as they were so excited about this trip, but heres my question to all of you..Have you ever planned a Disney vacation and things didn't go as expected.?..I don't mean just one or two things. I mean the whole trip wasn't as magical as you expected from vacations in the past.?...The impression I got from them was it will be a long time before they return..Fingers crossed this has never happened to us, and I hope it never will..Yes we have had the very occasional meal that didn't live up to its hype, or maybe three or four days of bad weather..I know this year we wondered what would happen if our MNSSHP was cancelled due to thunder storms or would WL just be a pretty average resort,or would our signature ADRS be so so...Thankfully all our dreams came true...

In a nutshell, yes. This last trip. But to be honest, it wasn't Disney's fault - it was the people we travelled with. Hasn't put us off though, in fact it's made us wanna go back sooner to make up for all the things that didn't go quite to plan. Sure a few things disney didn't go to plan - 3am fire alarm, manager rolling her eyes at us at dinner etc. but the other amazing things disney do just outweighed those Smile

I feel sorry for your friends though, it's no fun to look forward to something for so long only to not enjoy it Sad

Yep! It was mostly no fault of Disney's, but our quick little weekend trip this past August was just not all it was cracked up to be. The massive airline delays, oversold villain's party, issues checking in at Boardwalk, disappointing experience at the swolphin...there were a lot of little let downs for a <48hrs. trip! Luckily, there were also a few saving graces--Frozen Fireworks were lovely, Cape May Cafe was delicious, and we got to ride 7DMT sooner than expected. We didn't come home hating Disney or anything laugh , but it did feel a bit like the voyage of the damned at times!

Oh my goodness...... this wasn't Disney's fault either but things started going south before we ever did! A year ago I took my son and his family for his 25th birthday. We were supposed to have gone in 2012 but had to postpone it to 2013. So when my DH decided not to go in 2013 because he didn't want to leave his Akita puppy who had hip dysplasia surgery eight weeks prior, I told him I was not going to postpone again. So he made the decision to stay home instead of boarding him at the vet's office. We piled in my Yukon XL and headed for FL. Got down there and our two bedroom villa at BLT was beautiful!! My son loved it and didn't want to leave the room....if we had only known, we would have stayed there!! One by one everybody started getting sick. Grandson started with diarrhea but at least he never threw up. Scheduled HDDMR on the day of my son's birthday. Just before we entered the building he was out barfing in the bushes at Fort Wilderness. Sick Two days later we had ADR at Akershus to have breakfast with the princesses. DDIL barfed in the bushes at EPCOT! Sick Sick We had taken DDIL's sister and at least when she got sick we were back in the room! Thank goodness I waited until we got home before I caught it.

But wait...I'm not done!! On the way home we got to KY and received a phone call from DH back home. He had broken up a dog fight with the neighbor's dog who has always been aggressive toward our dogs. One of our dogs had the neighbor's dog by the throat and DH pried open his mouth. When ours let go, neighbor dog showed his appreciation by biting DH's hand. He was at the emergency room. Every 15 minutes we received an update. X-rays showed a broken finger, then surgery was required, then 24 hours of IV antibiotics were necessary so he didn't lose his finger. By the time we arrived back in town I dropped the rest of the family at home and headed for the hospital where DH was spending the night. A couple of months of physical therapy and periodic x-rays and his finger has never recovered. Cold weather makes it ache like the dickens!

Didn't keep us from going back! In February 2014 I whisked my husband away, just the two of us and had a wonderful last minute trip. Flew from Detroit to Orlando. Stayed three nights at Kidani and two nights at Beach Club. Even abandoned Mickey and headed to Universal for the day......shhh don't tell Mickey!! Actually doing it again in January 2015. Heading over to Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley. Cant wait!!

Our worst trip to WDW was our Disneymoon eek eek eek
We got as far as Gatwick airport before we had to cancel due to adverse weather in Florida ( a run of hurricanes one after the other).
In fairness to Disney the only thing they did wrong was not invent a machine to control the weather.
The poor cabin attendant got a slightly less than magical reply when she asked us to pose in our wedding ears on the return flight to our local airport ... Sorry Lady

Wow...See what I mean... eek ...I was a bit concerned booking October as after I had done this,I knew about the hurricane season so i was dreading any wind problems....But I reckon their little girl still enjoyed the trip( didn't speak to her) But I can see why the parents were kinda upset..If I had to fork out all that hard earned dosh and it wasn't as magical as I expected,I would be in the doldrums...Thankfully it's never happened and I hope it never will..

Looking back, I think for me, my 2010 trip was definitely one I wished I could have had back. Loved staying at Pop Century but I really regretted my dining choices to a point where I vowed not to make the same mistake again and I did so in my 2013 trip. I kinda also wished I tried more new experiences, something I admit I didn't do a whole lot there. I think my main motivation for going back in 2010 after my '09 trip was to see Animal Kingdom in its entirety (My class had a flight that left in the early afternoon so I only had about 2 hours in AK to spend.) but looking back, that could have waited for another time and I shouldn't have forced myself to go back in 2010 right away. Now in hindsight, if it wasn't for my greed, I could've bulked up more cash and possibly stay at a better resort for my 2013 trip! If I had to rank my past three trips that are actual Disneycations so to speak, 2009 at the top, my most recent 2013 trip in 2nd and 2010 in last. Now don't get me wrong. I still enjoyed myself on all three trips but for me, my 2010 trip definitely had more regrets in comparison to the other two.

I've had rough trips, but it has rarely been Disney's fault. Usually it's a combination of travel partners and not planning for enough time to relax. I get cranky when I'm just dashing from one place to another and can't enjoy the scenery. I like to take my time and smell the roses.

Well if you've seen my trip report you will know check in was awful.... But it was sorted.
The all stars are pretty ghetto resorts. It's great disney have them so every family can afford to go and we have and would stay there again, cause some trips we are hardly in the room..... But so the extra PS200 why wouldn't people book to stay at art of animation? Espionage from the uk cause you are going to get free dining (most of the time) and the gift card.

As for dinning options, we always have meals we regret, trex is pretty average the second time ect. But we put this down to a lesson learned. More often then not I find it's never really disneys fault that trips go wrong....

Our last trip was a lot of fun until two days near the end. Not Disney's fault, I don't think; am guessing I brought it with me, but not sure. I got a bit of stomach illness; kind of think it might have been food related as Kim never did get sick. . . And she is usually the one who catches everything! Everyone was so nice and helpful with making sure I got ginger ale and aspirin. Two icky days and I was much better; only impacted going out to the parks one day because I slept most of it. Kim was delighted to sit and read by the pool!

But of course we will go back!!
