iPhone?

You guys are talking about other phones over in the MouseTraveler thread and I'm wondering what you think about the iphone. Does anyone have one? We're thinking of taking the plunge...

I was a blackberry addict for many many years, but honestly since I got my iPhone last year I wonder how I ever functioned without it. I love my iPhone. I honestly feel lost if I don't have it. The only bad thing is having to use ATT and the service which is not the greatest.

I don't have one yet, either, Annie. I haven't really checked out the costs, and I would have to switch service providers (have verizon right now). That said, there are some really cool apps for the phone. I love that you can download urbanspoon and get all sorts of restaurant reviews in your area because the phone can pinpoint right where you are!

The AT&T thing is a big drag for me. Not that my current service is anything to write home about, but the devil you know...

Do you find you can type as quickly on your iPhone as you could on your Blackberry?

Not at all. I was a whiz on the blackberry. I am getting better (1 year + into having an iPhone) but still not as quick as I would like to be. You have to learn to trust the autocorrect and it did take some time getting used to no response from the keys

In my experience, it all boils down to the old notion that an item or tool that is designed to do a great many things will never be as good at any of said things as an item or tool that is designed for just that. That said, I think the iPhone is better for many people. For people that use the phone for business, or similar purposes, I think the BB is better. Also, for a technogeek like me, I like the BB better. You can run pretty much any application the hardware can process (such as any small Java apps) - it doesn't have to be something that's made for the BB or even for a cell phone for that matter.

I would assert a virtual keyboard will always be second best for typing. If you're proficient with a real keyboard, the virtual keyboard is always going to be slower.

I feel like my iPod is a better iPod than an iPhone will ever be. At this point, I don't feel the need to have the one device that does everything under the sun. I'd rather have individual devices that excel in those areas. That said, if and when, AT&T's monopoly ends I may reconsider.

I didn't even think about the keyboard! Thanks for reminding me...
