Mrhub & Scrappy's family trip report.

We will heading out tomorrow for this long awaited trip. We are taking our two sons, their wives, and and our baby grand daughter. This should be an interesting trip report for sure. We have never gone to Disney in the summer with the heat and crowds and, we have not gone on a family trip for 8 years.

Have fun, be safe, and try to stay cool! The heat can really be a downer if you're not careful.

Yes Annie we will miss them! We drove to Spotsylvania last night and got a hotel room for the night. Headed out about 8am this morning and we are now in St Augustine Fl. We hit some really nasty storms on the way here through SC & GA. Damn near had to stop right in the middle of I95 it was coming down so bad. And this internet connection at the Hampton Inn really stinks! I can barely post.
Youngest son , DIL & GD spent the day At Sea world today and had a blast. Got a little rain but not much. I might have more time this trip to do a some what live trip report, since we will be baby sitting a lot I think. Hope everyone is well. More later.

Doesn't sound like fun driving, glad you made it safely! I hate hotels with bad internet. At least you're only there for one night, right?

Glad you made it safe this far! I've never been to St. Augustine -- have you guys ever explored or done the tourist thing there? Would love to know if it's worth it...

Safe travels on the rest of the way. Hopefully those storms on the way down are the only rain you encounter this week!

Hurray we are here! Just checked in, Adam,Jen & Addison are here too, just waiting for the stragglers now. This is really nice here. Neat seeing the animals up close. Baby loves it. Just waiting for our luggage
To get to our rooms now. It is hot, hot hot here but the humidity is not bad at all. More later.

Woo! Party (or maybe babysitting) time!

Lack of humidity hopefully means it will cool down in the evenings.

Well we spent our first 1/2 day in the Magic Kingdom. Had some rain and thunder storms but that didn't dampen our fun at all. We had lunch at Sanaa, which was very delicious. oldest son & DL finally got there and we got them checked in but room wasn't ready so they dumped their carry on bags in our room. We then went to the car care center and did some paper shuffling and ended up keeping the car Youngest son got on Friday and will keep that for the week so we have 2 cars. We circled back around and headed into the Magic Kingdom and did the Haunted mansion first. Line was all the way out into the heart of FL but it was only about 20 minutes long. Don't know were the time went but the next thing I know it was time for our dinner reservations at the Liberty Tree Tavern. All of us said we weren't really hungry but we did a hurting on the beef that they brought out with the turkey & ham & stuffing and green beans and mash potatoes and gravy. We even asked for more beef! It was really really good!. Finished off with the big bowl of apple crisp and vanilla ice cream! Um um!

After dinner we headed over to Adventure Land and did the Tiki Room, the Jungle boat ride, & Pirates of Caribbean and then headed out to Main Street to watch the fireworks, which got temporarily cancelled 1/4 way through due to technical difficulties. We just came back to our rooms then and are crashing for the night. More later.

I've learned that even when you're NOT hungry at WDW, you can still pack it away -- at least WE can! ;D Glad to hear the first day has turned out so magical for you guys.

So, do all the "kids" get along? Do they see each other often, or rarely?

Must have been really strange to have the fireworks stop 1/4 of the way through! Kind of surreal!

Loving the real time reporting, MrHub! Makes me feel like I'm there!

Thx SpaceAce, Yes it was sort of strange the way they just stopped and announced that the rest of the fireworks for the show had been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. Then just as we were walking out the front entrance, they announced the fireworks would continue in a minute and boom, they just started up again were they left off. We did not go back in, just left to beat the rush.

Ok Day 2;
Started out with breakfast at Chef Mickey's. Addison's reaction to most of the characters was "Aaaahhhhhh!". She wasn't that bad with Mickey, but didn't want near him. Minnie she probably would have warmed up to, but they were really moving fast trying to get to every table. We did get a good family photo by the photographer. Had to buy that one!.

We then headed to DHS. We went right to Toy Story Mania and got our fast passes. That was at about 1000 and the fast passes were all ready for 4:50 to 5:50 pm. Does that tell you how busy they were?

The heat was pretty bad to today, not many clouds and that sun was baking us. Lots of water and sunscreen used today. Half way threw breakfast my camera decided to take a dump and started doing all kinds of crazy things. I put a new set of batteries in it when we got back to our room tonight, so I'll see if that does the trick, it seems to work now.

We did the Little Mermaid, the Muppet's, & Great Movie Ride. The kids all went on the Back lot Tour while me and Scrappy chilled in the shade with some frozen refreshments trying to get cool! Did some other things in the Kiddie section (as I call it), and then did lunch at the Commissary. Late now so I will try to put more in tomorrow.

Whew! It's been a while since I've been to WDW in the baking hot sun of summer! I do NOT envy you that part, to be sure! Where's the "pool time" we were promised!? Smile

How'd you like the commissary for lunch? I've heard mixed reviews. Anything good?

Will Addison get another option to see the characters this trip?

I've never heard of them cancelling and then un-cancelling the fireworks. You get a check mark on the scavenger hunt!

Do they have the Ooey Gooey Toffee thingie at dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern?

Loving the report so far!! Poor Addison with the characters Sad You never know if they're going to love 'em or hate 'em!

Hope you're enjoying your day today, MrHub and Scrappy! Looking forward to more!

WooHoo...LOVE trip reports!!! We went to the world last July...just look for the shade as much as possible. We also took advantage of as many "dark" rides as possible. I highly recommend Carousel of Progress...about 20 minutes of dark, blissful AC!! NAP time!!! Tiki Room is also good for a cool off.

Sounds like the family is having a great time...looking forward to more great TR entries!!

Great point suggesting the dark rides! I bet Universe of Energy gets increased attendance this time of year just for the air conditioning alone! laugh

Hi everyone! I will not interrupt Mrhub's trip report but I will add my thoughts on what he has reported so far. Sanaa was my favorite meal of the trip. I had a burger but it was different than any burger I have ever had. It was served open faced on non bread which is what I call flat bread. I am not really sure what was between the burger and the bread but it sure was yummy. I would make a trip to that resort just to eat there again! The Commissary was my least favorite of the trip and may even rate as my least favorite ever.

Okay, sorry for the live trip report ending so suddenly, but the days got hotter and longer and by the time we got back into our room each night, all we wanted to do was shower and hit the bed. I will try to recall each day as it went buy using our pictures:

To finish up day 2:
After lunch at the Commissary,(no comment on the food), we went to the TOT side of the park. We did Tower of Terror which we pretty much just walked onto the elevator without a wait, I love this ride. Then off to R&R which was a 60 minute wait. Scrappy stayed with Addi outside while the rest of us did these two rides. They went shopping in the stores!

Dinner was at the 50's Prime Time Cafe' , at around 6pm so we worked our way around the park to there. We only waited for about 20 minutes after giving our name and were seated. It was shoulder to shoulder in the waiting area there!
The meal was really , really good and nobody got Ketchup poured on the table in front of them for putting their elbows on the table, but Scrappy got warned!!!!

I had Aunt Annie's Seafood Salad - Lump Blue Crab, Bay Scallops, and Shrimp tossed in Citrus Vinaigrette served on seasonal greens, Top Sirloin Steak Char-grilled and topped with sauteed mushrooms, red and green peppers, and served with root vegetable hash. For dessert I had a chocolate milkshake. Man those suckers are thick, and our waiter warned us about stirring them before we pour more so we don't make a mess!

After dinner we went back to Toy Story to use our fast passes that we got when we came in, because when our original time had come up, we got there and they were emptying the building due to the ride breaking down. They honored our passes and we got right in line.

We called it a day and left the park, headed back to the resort and chilled. The kids all went to the pool and spent most of the night in there while Scrappy and I walked around the resort and chilled in the room for the night.

End of day 2!

We fully expect that babysitting trips are going to be hard to merge with trip reports! Can't wait to hear more.
