Pin Traders - Questions

Ok... were getting close to our 100 day mark, and im already trying to get things lined up. The biggest thing im trying to get ready is for Pin Trading. Jess and I are trying to figure out the best way to do this. You may think this is crazy but for the 4 of us... we plan on taking over 200 pins to trade down there. Now... if we only trade 20... we will still have over 180 to trade in the following years. We just dont want to get into the point last year where we were down to 1-2 trade-ables and had to spend 20 bucks on a starter set just to keep the fun going. I even think my parents are taking 200-300 as well... SO... the here is the question...

What is the best way to trade down there? I had a couple ideas. I have seen bags, where you put the on the outside to display them and such. The other idea is a book. Put the trade-ables in the book, and put the keeps on the lanyard. The other option is to carry a bunch of lanyards and do it that way. I am wondering what you guys do... or the best possible way of doing this?

Reason I ask? Got to buy stuff before we get down there. Need to know if I need to buy a crap load of lanyards... a book... bags...? I love Disney... but man the pin lanyards can get super expensive and some of the cooler lanyards come with pins which make them 30-50 bucks a pop! I want to be able to spend my money on the pins... heh. You know... maybe some 2011 lanyards and such but you know what I mean. So yeah... help us out! lol]

awesome

Sorry Mase, can't really help you there. We don't trade pins, we just collect them. I do think the bags that open like a book seem the most organized way thought. You know the ones i mean , that look like the cd cases that zipper closed.

DH and I do it differently.

We bought a messenger bag at WDW made for Disney pins. He likes to keep all his trades in there and opens it when it's time to trade and wears his favs on his lanyard to show what types he collects.

Me, I keep some trades in the bag, but wear some on my lanyard. My left side is keeps, right trades and every so often I pull more from my bag and switch things out.

I like having them right there to grab.

In both cases it took us a few days to figure out what worked best for each of us. Trial and error.

Yeah... I got ya. I think Jess and I may do it differently in the end like Katrina did. I'm leaning more towards a book/bag and keep my favorites on my lanyard. I honestly don't know in the end if there is going to be a right way and a wrong way but definitely want to keep the tradeables in a way so we can carry a lot of them and get to them easily.

I do a coupla things, but I'm not a massive trader, just a pretty casual one.

First, I have 5 lanyards, and each one has mostly keeps and a few trades. I usually wear 1 or 2 at a time and switch them out throughout the day.

I also stick a few trades on my shorts in the front - usually on the pocket flaps.

I also bought a hat a few years ago at AK that had about 10 pins on it for < $15 - I kept a few but traded the rest. Now I wear the hat (to protect my big bald head) and stick a few more trades on there.

And I carry a few in my pocket just in case.

I usually just trade with CMs when I see something I really like.

I also have a crafting tip for you if you ever get that ambitious. When I was out with my neck recovery, Joe found this at Wal-Mart on clearance for like $2:

It was the perfect width for a lanyard, so Crafty Jeff made one:

Super cheap, super easy, and enough material to make 2-3.

I thought about a pin bag, but I'm not a good lugger-around-of-stuff. I tried wearing all 5 lanyards at once once, and boy, was that not my thing! Ha!

Maybe that's why you needed neck surgery....lol

That is such a neat idea!! I am going to try to make my own lanyard if I can find some cute material! Thanks for the idea.

Usually when I go to Disneyland I carry my 1 lanyard that is full of traders and I trade throughout the day. I plan on carrying a few extra in my bag in case I have a good trade day but I try to keep it to a minimum..

I'm not a huge pin collector so I can't be much help on that front..but..I do know that you can buy lanyards at Teacher Supply stores for fairly cheap! Sometimes they have bags of them if you needed lots!
