Rumor - Fast Pass change coming?

Rumor - Fast Passes will be eliminated for everyone except resort guests with Key to the World Cards or linked Magic Band.

Interesting. Honestly it's not an issue for me for a couple of reasons. Those reasons are: I always stay on property & don't really use Fastpass that much anyway. I do find it interesting that there is talk of making the Fastpass system a perk of staying on property like EMH is but can't say I really care if they do. I actually find that fairer than giving those who have the Magicbands the ability to make the Fastpass equivalent of an adr & forcing those who don't to do the Fastpass equivalent of a dining walk up.

I honestly can't see this happening. Disney would loose way to much business. I already see the problem with park hopping. They are eventually going to have to let people using fastpass+ do multiple parks or why have park hoppers.

Beleve it or not, Disney's most frequent visotrs are Floridians. And usually we just do a day trip. Most of us don't stay in hotels, especially if we are from the Central Florida area. Because of this, I can't see Disney giving this big perk to people staying in hotels. If they want to keep the majority of their annual pass holders happy, they won't do this.

They are getting rid of the paper fastpasses and putting in the stations where you would tap your magic band to see which fastpasses you have and which ones are currently available if you wanted to switch them out. AP holders will have access to fastpass+ a long with CMs in the near future. I'm not really sure how off property guests will fit into it yet.

Even if they get rid of the paper fastpasses, they will still have to have some sort way to issue regular fastpasses.

I think everyone will eventually have access to fastpass+. Since fastpass+ is still new, they are still working on getting everything finalized and all the bugs out. Why change it to where only ap holders, cast members and guests staying on Disney property get access to fastpass+? It just doesn't make sense. How we get and use fastpasses is just evolving.

I think the real question is: If Disney goes the way the rumormill has it, FP+ for resort guests, DVC, and AP holders only (which would include the day tripping Floridians), would this encourage you to stay on property?? I can't see the FP+ making up for the price difference for most families.

I have to say, with 3 upcoming trips, all on Disney property and a Magic Band on its way, I'm cool with this. I wish I could figure out how to FP+ at parks other than the MK right now, but I guess I'll figure that out.

You can FP+ at all the parks JMUDukz, we did for our upcoming trip. You can only do one park day, which does suck for people that park hop a lot.

No, I actually CAN'T. MyDisneyExperience will allow me to select any day of my trip, but will ONLY allow me to select the MK to FP. I keep getting a msg that my "some tickets in your party are not valid for admission to [insert park name other than MK here]." I don't know what the issue is b/c I have a 2 day PH as part of my package (b/c I intend to upgrade to an AP once I get down there). I could understand if it only allowed me to FP+ any park on 2 different days, but no matter what day I select, I can ONLY select the MK to FP+. I think I could FP+ all 4 days at the MK, but I haven't really tried b/c it seems rude to hold up FPs on days I have no intention of going to the MK!

You really need to contact Disney about that.

You should be able to call 407WDWDISNEY and speak with someone.

Thanks Mandy, I'll do that tomorrow. I also found a form where I can submit a "question" so I filled it out. I also threw in the issue I had with online check in offering me the villages of the CBR for my POR reservation. Seriously confused at this point. Thanks again for your help and I'll let you know if there's a resolution.

Now...back to your regularly scheduled debate on Fast Pass +!!

Exactly...

I can see both sides of the coin on this one. For me... we usually only come down and stay at a resort. Now... our last trip wouldnt had been affected because we had annual passes. So yeah... I can see this being more harmful than anything... and if Disney does this... I see it lasting a month before a HUGE backlash.

I think disney should do away with Fp and Adrs all together and make it first come first serve like it used to be, everyone gets to crazy about everything and nothing seems spontaneous anymore. I hate that people wait over an hour for a spot before the parades just because I guide book told them to, then because of their waiting everyone else has to wait because it gets so busy. But it doesn't have to be like that. On our last trip a family actually shouted at me because I stood next to theon the side of Main Street cause they had been waiting an hour and I just walked up. The space was empty, their was no problem but people get disney crazy. The toy story mania madness is all because guide books tell people to run there get a fast pass and then ride so both the Fp and stand by get super busy. Back before the Internet, you only knew about what was at the parks for friends and family and the odd book and so tips and tricks were rarer and the system was fairer to all. I don't want to book on to splash mounting in April for my trip I. October I also don't want to choose what I want to eat in be our guest months in advance. How will I know where I'll be when I want to eat and what I want to eat? It's craziness, like I say get rid of all of it the first come first serve at be our guest lunch great and felt like old disney. As they say the earlier bird catches the worm, you snooze you loose.

Sorry JMUDukz, I meant "you should be able to FP+ all the parks". I would try calling the number for "MyExperience problems" (407) 939-4357. Here is the list of other numbers, you probably found them already though. Any number you call will direct you to the right person I'm sure.

Wow! I apparently couldn't spell this morning when I posted this.

Playing the devil's advocate...it honestly wouldn't surprise me too much if they did switch to this. That's the way Universal has been doing "fastpasses" for years...you only have access if you're a resort guest or buy a pass at an additional charge.

First, thanks to everyone who helped me with my FP questions. Just wanted to post a quick update, not that you're all waiting on edge to find out how my fastpasses go, but perhaps it can save someone some frustration in the future!!

Turns out, b/c I booked through runDisney, my PH ticket is considered a "special" ticket and is not yet linked to my reservation. Seems a little odd to me, since I still booked through a Disney reservationist, but that's the story. B/c I have a MNSSHP ticket, I can FP at MK but not any of the other parks. I'm still unclear what happens when I check in, if my PH will link to my account and thus let me FP at the parks, but since I'm upgrading to an AP, once I link that, it should work out. Not that my life will end if I don't FP Soarin or TSM, but at least my mystery is solved!!

So that answers your questions but is really no help to you. I think they are still figuring out some of the systems and working out the last of the bugs like this one for fastpass+. Regular fastpass will still be available when you come.

I think I'm getting more confused over all the fast pass plus stuff. In December we decided not to use it at all and just do the normal fast pass in the park. We don't really need many but have had a soarin day where we got more than one pass. Now that we will have our bands will we loose the ability to get an in park fast pass? I sure hope this doesn't become like ADR's. I can guess what reservations to make based off park hours but rides are more spontaneous for me. I don't want a vacation full of checklists. Running from one item to the next isn't my idea of fun. Hope I'm not the only one that wants to enjoy a detail now and then.

You can change your fastpass+ selection as long as you don't use it but there is no guarantee you can get another fastpass+ for the ride you want.

Hmm. If Disney ditches Fastpasses for non-resort visitors, that plan would most likely backfire on them. They already give resort vacationers bonus hours at the parks. Taking something away, like Fastpasses, from someone is always seen as a much bigger deal than giving something new to someone else. If they did that, I wouldn't consider staying onsite; I would consider not going at all. Something tells me there are too many people like me. I can't imagine they would make that huge of a mistake.

Ever since Extra Magic Hours started they've been saying that they were going to get rid of them. It's not that I don't believe that it will happen one day, it's just not one of those things that I'm going to get worked up about. There are some Disney rumors that are always floating around.
