Split Stays

We've never even considered a split stay. It just seems like so much trouble to pack up all our stuff to switch resorts.

So, probably just for the sake of argument, I'll consider it.

Let's assume we can get a great deal and that we'll be able to book both the Poly and the Beach Club at a rate we can swing. Or, as long as this is pretty hypothetical, the Beach Club and any other resort that can accomodate 5. (So that lets out WL and AKL... their standard rooms only accomodate 4.)Our trip is in August 2014... we're already saving. Let's assume 8 nights, so 4 and 4, I'm guessing.

How does doing a split stay compensate for the work involved in packing up and moving?

And which resort is the other half of the split? And in which order?

Why do you love split stays?

I've never done a split stay but I think it would be really enjoyable, especially at Disney where it's not hard to get from one resort to another. I've heard that it's best to start at the "lower" quality resort (ie, start at a value, then have the second half at a deluxe) but since you're considering all deluxes I would think stay at the one you're more excited about the second half of the week so it doesn't feel like a "downgrade" but an upgrade instead. Good luck: I'm sure people who have actually done split stays can give you much better tips.

I'll let you know when I get back from my June/July trip. Doing 3 nights at OKW, then hopping over the BWV for the next 5. I am looking forward to staying in 2 places I have not stayed before, as I am a new DVCer. mickey

I don't like split stays, however with the two resorts you've chosen I do see a benefit in location. Both of those resorts offer direct to park non-bus transportation.

You could do all of your Magic Kingdom days while staying on the monorail at the Polynesian, with easy access to the Park and the fabulous restaurants of the monorail hotels. I'd also do DAK while here just to even things out. Then when switching to Beach Club, it gives you that same location benefit to Epcot & Hollywood Studios with the added bonus of Stormalong Bay and the Boardwalk entertainment.

That's exactly what I'm thinking.

I'm also thinking that if we did a Garden Room at the CR instead of the Poly, we could save a little money, and still have the monorail (one of my son's favorite rides Smile ) AND be able to walk to the MK...

Hmmmmm

I didnt think i would care for split stays, i like to fully unpack when i get to my hotel room, so i would have to pack everything away and move.... annoying! But we tried it on our last trip, we did 7 nights at the beach club, 3 night cruise, 2 nights AKL and 12 nights in a villa. we unpacked everything for the first week. then packed a bag for the cruise and left the rest of our bags at disney (to be picked up in AKL) and then we dipped into the bags without unpacking in AKL before completely unpacking at the villa (and doing heaps of washing lol). It wasnt a bother, I did most of the packing/unpacking as im a bit OCD about it much to hubbys delight Wink i packed late at night while we chilled in the room so we werent 'missing out' on anything. we are doing another split stay later this year, AKL 7 night, 2 night BLT and 10 nights AKL Smile
