Things you shouldn't do in WDW...

Ok, Let me explain..I was speaking to a couple last night and they told me this year was the first in seven years that they will miss a Disney trip..Anyway they told me a story about last year how they met another Scottish family at their resort,POFQ, and one day decided to bring their own wine to the pool for drinks but were told by the staff that this was a no no.. eek I have seen a family at the small pool in PORS with their own drinks that they had in a large cooler box..This has got me thinking ( as usual ) Is there any rules of things that isn't allowed while staying at Disney..I know about the forbidden pool hopping, but I was wondering if you know of any others.?..

I'm wondering if it was the wine that was objectionable, or the glass bottle? Were they drinking poolside, or attempting to drink while in the water?

Probably the glass. Glass in a pool becomes an invisible weapon and can be disastrous.

That's what I was thinking too. I always bring nips of rum and vodka (plasic bottles) with me to mix with soda in my resort mug and my friend brings cans of beer. We've never been told we can't have it by the pool.

Broken glass can be so bad that they have to drain the pool completely in order to find it and get rid of it. Glass and pools just don't mix.

King Fergus

I've no idea if they were using wine glasses or plastic cups.?..I wouldn't think they would be drinking in the pool..More likely sitting poolside..Maybe someone knows the answer..

Glass isn't allowed even poolside for the same reason.

Well, also considering that there will be a lot of people walking barefoot in the pool area combine that with the possibility of broken glass...yeah, that's another way to look at why there's the no glass zone so to speak.

There's a few rules. The reason for no wine was the glass, but you can of course drink it in your room or put it in another container, but you cannot bring it into the parks

Character costumes for adults shouldn't too closely represent the Disney costumed characters.

No full facial masks

No clothing that's excessively provocative, has explicit language on it, or that shows drug use or gang affiliation.

Certain items are restricted inside the parks: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/faq/parks/restricted-personal-items/

I asked my son. It is the glass bottle that is the issue, same would go for glass beer bottles. Disney sells individual serving sized wine and those are allowed or you can bring your own. Food and Beverage is never allowed in the pool itself. At night when we are asleep the pool is cleaned with an auto vacuum machine. It is vacuum like we've all seen for the home that is a robot and scurries around the house these are just larger. If glass gets into the pool which does happen with bad storms or hurricane winds the vacuum goes into the pools. There are also vacuums that look similar to household vacuums that are hand held.

You cannot bring a wagon into the parks or a cooler that you pull behind you. Basically anything that is pulled or towed from behind as the guest is looking forward and toppling guests behind them when they change direction.

Electric Carts also cannot have a tow attachment behind them. Some attachments can pull another person on a standing attachment and others attachments are small cargo, also not allowed.

Also if you are transferring parks or re-using a balloon to mark your stroller, you cannot bring a balloon into Animal Kingdom.

If my wine or beer is in a plastic cup (or the rest of our party) we are cool to sit by the pool, right? Simple question.

We have never had a problem taking our own alcohol to the pool area but we have always decanted it into plastic containers first.

The pool rules state that there is no glass within 50 feet of an unfenced pool and no glass within a fenced in pool. Any other type of container like plastic and aluminium is okay. They just don't want the glass breaking then all chaos breaking loose for it.

There are places around here where they don't want the cans anymore either because people will crush them other and then others can accidentally be cut when walking on them. Just to be safe, ALL beverages will be in our plastic assortment for us.

There is a clip on one of the YOUTUBE Disney links - quite the sob story - of this young woman who was taking her boyfriend to WDW so she spent "months" making him a Peter Pan costume and her a Tinkerbell costume to wear for the day. She tearfully explained that it took her hours to put up her hair with the glitter and do her nails green (pan to wiggling fingers with a weird green nail polish and add sobs and tissues to this description) only to be refused admission at the entrance of the park! The CMs even gave them both FREE CLOTHES from the store to wear because they were being refused entrance as is (and obviously had not read the park rules), and even though one of them was a Tink t-shirt, she refused and they wasted the ticket because, to quote the distraught teen: "It's the principle of the thing. I WANT TO BE TINKERBELL! (sobsobsobsob) waiting

The film crew presented it as her being unfairly treated and denying her dream, but all I could think was THEY GAVE YOU FREE CLOTHES, you can still have the hair and nails, and your boyfriend doesn't have to wear pointed shoes all day (they did offer flipflops with the clothes). gaah

Now we all know the price of Disney clothing and some of it we buy because we WANT it, but it's not cheap. They were each offered a top, shorts, and flipflops (about $100 each?) and they wasted the day ticket and walked away?????? My DH said he would wear the crappy made Peter Pan outfit just to get the free clothes! How many parks do you think you could do this before they cut off the free wardrobe???? rolling rolling rolling rolling

I would have jumped at the free clothes too!

Sounds like she wanted the attention more than having a great day at WDW? wink

Yes I've seen that video and thats actually the one I was referring to in Phil's post regarding dressing too much like a character. Disney can refuse to let you in.

I remember that story. Oh boo hoo hoo. I'll admit I had no sympathy for her. She wasn't following the rules. She was very fortunate that Disney offered her the clothes. They didn't have to. Anywhere else, they would have made her leave to go change.

The only time where you can actually dress like a character is the Halloween Party but that's about it. I remember reading about the aforementioned incident a while back. Makes me wonder if she actually thought it through? I mean, it's sort of like going to a formal dining restaurant dressed in t-shirts and shorts without checking the actual dress code beforehand!

After my first reaction of "Are you kidding me? Even if you didn't know the rules, they are forking over new clothes to help make your day magical!!!!" Then I saw the "unusual green" nail polish and decided she dug her own grave yuck

Oh! I thought of something else that you're not supposed to do at Disney. They really frown on scattering a loved ones ashes there. I don't know why that just popped into my head - but there you have it. Random useless knowledge from Kristen for the day.

I understand that the Haunted Mansion is a particular favorite for this unwelcome activity.
