WDWFG Superlatives: Best Sound

Some of these won't lend themselves to polls, and this is one of them. MouseTraveler mentioned that his favorite sound in WDW is the sound of the boats by the Polynesian and Contemporary.

What's your favorite WDW Sound? mickey

Wow, a best sound...I can probably come up with ten!

If I had to pick ONE it would be the swell of music during the opening of Fantasmic - I think you all know what I mean. It just RINGS of Disney for me.

Some runners up:
--the water cannons off Splash Mountain
-- the far-away screams from Expedition Everest and ToT
-- "In the big blue world" from Finding Nemo: The Musical
-- The entrance music in DHS - it just makes me think "MOVIES!"
-- USED to be the quiet in the queue of Space Mountain, but apparently that's going away...
-- the drums in Japan
-- the splash of the fountains outside Journey Into Imagination
-- the whirr of the monorail
-- Paul Frees voice

Cool question...

I love the sounds that surround me when I'm sitting by a pool--kids laughing, water splashing, people chatting. I just lay there and zone out. Sometimes I bring a book, but I usually find myself too interested in all the different little dramas around me to pay attention to reading.

Also, when the narrator "blows" out the lanterns before Illuminations.

And the hawaiian performers at the Poly (what's that guy's name?)

The music for Illuminations in general may be mine. Or perhaps the Splash Mountain climb before the big drop.

I'm going to go with the soundtracks at Animal Kingdom Lodge and Wilderness Lodge, as well as the SpectroMagic music. I love that stuff.

WOW! What a topic. There is no bad Disney music. Whoever has control manages to push every sonic button I have every time! I am a person who would give up sight before hearing. I get goose bumps listening to the Wishes sound track or Fantasmic or Spectromagic parade - the music is awesome! Just imagine what it would be like if all the music at Disney was turned off. The music is part of the magic. As for a favorite - don't even ask. I had the Welcome, Welcome song from Magic Kingdom's opening ceremony looping on my mp3 player for 3 weeks! Every time I see the Spectromagic parade the music just keeps replaying in my head for days. I agree, the opening music of Fantasmic is great, but so is the Exit music. Oh, one final comment - - It is not only the music, but the fantastic speakers and sound control that make it all work. Great music on crappy carnival speakers wouldn't do. I am constantly amazed how you can walk 10 feet and, without even knowing it, you move into a new wash of different music - - HOW DO THEY DO THAT??? Another Disney marvel!

There really is so much music that I have a fondness for there. I'm with the other posters who have mentioned here and in other threads that I love the Space Mountain music in the queue area. I will be really sad if it's gone after the updates.

I've always wondered that about the parades. How do they change the music so seamlessly from one float to another? You'd think you'd be able to hear the sound from the one before and the one after, but you can't!

Hmm...best sound might have to be the old Mickey wake-up calls. Stitch does them now, but I used to love when Mickey would call and tell me to get "up and at 'em!"

Also, the boo-to-you parade music!

The monologue on the monorail......

"Please stand clear of the doors......", etc, etc.

You guys are Disney nuts, so you probably know that much of that stuff is available for download on the web.

I have some of the monorail announcements, and still get a thrill hearing them whenever I fire them up.

I have a short video of the monorail ride from Grand Floridian to the Magic Kingdom and love watching it now and again. Even though I'm sitting at home on the computer, my brain is somehow anticipating walking through those turnstyles and onto Main Street. biggrin

I actually associate all that kind of canned speech with Disney World. Sometimes when I'm riding the tram at the airport it makes me think wistfully of WDW.

OK, I know I'm going WAY off topic here, but hopefully you'll indulge me and understand why in a a minute.

There is a movie that came out about five years ago called 'Love Actually'. Its a chick flick (no offense meant) and has Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson (sp), Emma Thompson and a bunch of others.

If I had to pick a favorite 'chick flick', this would be it. (Yes, its kind of silly, but I'm a softy at heart!)

The last 20 minutes of the movie basically tie up all the loose ends as they travel all over and revisit most of the characters in the movie.

I was watching it one night with my wife and a thought came to me. The soundtrack over the last 10 minutes or so of this movie was woven together just like a Disney parade soundtrack. I know this is about as off the wall as you can get, but as I listened to the music it was EXACTLY like watching a parade at Disney with the different floats, characters and plots going by, but with a central theme music that blended perfectly from unit to unit. It even SOUNDS like something you'd hear at a Disney event.

I know every movie ties their sound track to the plot, etc., but for SOME reason this is the one that made me think of WDW as it built to a climax.

OK, end of WAY off the chart posting about something that has NOTHING to do with WDW. (But it does have to do with sound.....)

That's my favorite chick flick, too, MT. I'll have to listen to the montage at the end again now! Good excuse to go watch it one more time (must find DVD).

I actually went back and watched the last 20 minutes of it after writing this. You may not think this, but the music just winds its way through the last bit and it even SOUNDS a little like a Disney soundtrack.

That's a chick flick I don't mind. If it's in Britain, it gets points for some reason. Will have to go back and listen.

I think you're just trying to trick me into watching a chick flick!

Maybe the best sound is:

"Welcome to Orlando International Airport"

Probably. After all, I'm the guy with TWO DVR's catching 'The Young & The Restless' every day.

Why do you need 2 DVRs to catch the Young and the Restless?

Long story, but in a nutshell I use a remote device to change a cable box feeding my Tivo. Sometimes it tends to act up and switch to the wrong channel. When we got our DVR from the cable company, I went ahead and set it up to catch Y&R also, just as a backup.

Does something bad happen if you miss an episode? silly

I hate when my technology acts up and just decides to do it's own thing instead of what I told it to do.

How long have you been a Y&R devotee, MT?

Yes, something bad happens.

When I get home, I have to watch the 6PM replay on Soapnet with the wife.

I'm strictly a devotee by osmosis. My wife is the fan, and I catch enough here and there to know most of the characters and what is going on.

I could care less if I watch it, but I have to admit I ask her what happened fairly often.

I decided a LONG time ago you could chart who HASN'T slept with each other on this show a LOT easier than who has!!!

laugh That's the POINT! It creates drama...

Now, do soaps from the same channel let the characters from different shows cross over? I've always wondered that---like back when the Empty Nest characters somehow knew the Golden Girls characters...
