Beautiful pin set, Zapperz. August trip sounds good...and hot. Smile I anticipate many afternoons in the Saratoga Springs air conditioning! (Is that where you're staying, or are you going to be somewhere else this time?)

I'm staying at AKL for April/May, and am trying to get into BLT for August. If we can't get into that, we'll try for Boardwalk or Beach Club. The latter two are closer to where the pin event will be held.

Here's an update on the Dole Whip vest. For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, I mentioned it in my Museum of Pin-Tiquities trip report a while back.

http://www.wdwforgrownups.com/forum/index.php?tid=909&tpg=3#p12084

Anyway, my collection of Dole Whip pins has continued to grow. I now have, get this, 67 Dole Whip pins. I would have 68, but I lost one at one of our Windy City Pin Traders meet. Everyone went looking for it, but couldn't find it.

So to prevent any more pin casualty, I replaced all of the standard pin back on these pins with..... earring backs that I bought at Micheal's! Smile Those seem to work very well and really grip the end of the pins. Hopefully, I won't lose any more pins.

So here is the latest collection of my Dole Whip pins.

Still looking for more....

I love this vest -- such a clever way to make lemonade out of the lemon of winning so many of the same pin! Thanks for the update; great little bit of macguyver-ing with the earring backs.

Hey Zz, have you ever used the backs for the pins that have an allen scew on them, they never come off unless you unscrew them.

I have, and they don't work!

I still have some in unopened bags. There are 3 problems with them:

1. the socket heads are too small. You can easily strip one of them.

2. They can't grip onto the pin that well. I've lost a couple of pins that were on my hat using those pinbacks.

3. They stick out too much.

They do stick out a good bit!. I have never lost a pin with them though. I use them on the shoulder bag I carry through the parks and they have been on for years.

Oh, there's one more point I forgot to mention. The earring backs are A LOT CHEAPER. You get 60 per pack for less than, oh, I don't remember.. but it's less than $4 per pack.

Such a great vest, Zapperz! I bet you're in a lot of people's family photos wearing that thing! Good suggestions on the pin back options.

In an earlier post in this thread, I mentioned about one of the theme that I collect, which is the World Showcase country pins. These are not easy normally to collect one at a time. So when there's something out there where you can get the whole set, I grab onto it with both hands. This is what happened a couple of months ago when a friend went to WDW and got me this set.

It was a no-brainer for me. Now, I just need to get my act together and frame this with the rest of the World Showcase collection.

Is there room in the frame, or will you have to trade a set out to get this one on the wall?

Something has to be taken out. The frame has 2 complete sets of World Showcase pins, and other sets. So one of the other sets will be out. I intend to eventually turn the whole frame into World Showcase set. I'm just afraid to start collecting a new one. So this ability to get the whole set all at once is very good! Smile

Zapperz, you have some great friends. Everyone seems to be finding you pin sets! I have to say, though, even I keep my eyes open for fun sets and pins you might like when I'm online and go to Disney spots! Your enthusiasm is catching!

2 more pins that I got recently via trading. These came from the Disney Cruise Lines. Of course, both have Donald in them. They are jumbo pins.

What's going on in that first one? Coconut pressing? Love when Mickey's wearing a grass skirt.

The registration for the 2010 Pin Celebration - Trade City, USA opened today. There are some really neat pins and merchandise being offered this year.

Who else is going besides me? Smile

Strangely enough, the dole whip pins are becoming scarce. I didn't see even one on the December trip. My friends who have been to WDW are also reporting that they are not easy to find anymore.

ZapperZ.. I so want all those pins from the Haunted Mansion and the Nightmare Bfore Christmas ones!! Love them. I also really like the Epcot World Showcase stamps, those are really awesome. I got to start searching from some of those, haha.

I have two..one has a story..one is just cute. The cute one is a Mickey wearing a poncho..we went one trip and it rained the entire time so I bought it. It seemed appropriate. Wait, I guess that counts as a story. The other is a South Carolina pin with Snow White on it. I was looking for one for awhile and I never was able to get a "my state pin" because the didn't sell them anymore. I'd searched ebay and the stores then one day I went into MouseGears and they had their board set up..and there it was! I traded for it and now it sits on my bulletin board at home. I'm not a pin collector or anything I just really liked that particular one. Apparently someone had just traded it to the board right before I got there.

Update on the Chip 'n Dale Dole Whip pin vest.

If you are unaware of the saga of the Dole Whip pin vest, you can catch up with the genesis of this madness here.

Last month was a "momentous" occasion for the vest. I reach 100 Dole Whip pins for my vest!

It was a tremendous effort to get that many, and I owe a lot of thanks to the many enablers .... er ... friends who went out of their way to find me these pins. The vest will be carefully packed to go with me this Sept. to the Pin Celebration event at Epcot, where it will make it's 3 appearance there. And yes, I am determine this time to get face time with Chip 'n Dale to get a picture with them and the vest.

The only draw back here is that the vest is getting to be quite heavy! I intend to add as many as I can find, but at some point, I may have to stop adding more in case it might start to rip.

Zapperz that is incredible. I haven't been to WDW frequently enough to get into pin collecting. I do have a Tinkerbell pin and would like to add on!

I have like 20 pins. Like some people above me, I don't go frequently enough to get full sets. I actually did happen to find all four of the gold cast of Mickey, Miney, Goofy, and Donald Duck last year, all on Cast's lanyards. Regardless of how much they are worth, I was proud of myself!

I would have to say my favorite pin is Stitch ,dressed as a sailor, standing in front of an Aircraft Carrier. J's favorite character is Stitch, J is a sailor and at the time he was on a aircraft carrier and it looks like he is headed back to one. That is my fav pin.

So this is not my picture, but I have this pin. A professional pin collector/trader tried to trade for it this year..I said no. Pluto is one of my favorite characters, and this pin is awesome. Anyone know if it is part of a series?

One of our friends did the 1/2 marathon last year, and he gave us the Donald medal that they got, since he knew that we collect Donald stuff.

So we decided to include the medal in one of our Donald pin frames.
