They had pins for Capt. America, Frozen, etc. They had pins for Guardians of the Galaxy:Unfortunately, when I went to see the movie on Saturday, it turned out that they were all out of the pins by Friday! CRAP!
Same for us, I was sad. That will teach me to go see a movie on my own schedule. LOL!
Wow, great topic, I can hardly keep up with all of this! Someone asked this earlier in the thread, thought I'd comment:
Can you guys tell me what you enjoy about collecting/trading pins? I've always thought it seemed fun, but I'd like to hear details from those of you that have experienced it.
My son - he's 22 and out of the house now - and I have bought, collected and traded pins for a number of years now and we love it! We buy pins at the parks and Downtown Disney, and because we're Floridians, we're lucky that we can go over there a few times a year. Some of my best pins have been acquired by trading with cast members at DD. For example, I was there a few weeks ago and got my hands on a pin of MM as Captain EO. V. cool. My husband has a great collection of Chip and Dale pins, but only because we've traded for them for him. He just doesn't get into the pin thing like we do.
Why do we do it? We've been to WDW so many times, not only does it give us something new to do, but we feel it adds to our experience. We love talking to cast members about other things while we trade pins. A good starting point is to see where cast members are from by reading their name tags. We love the rides and shows, but he and I are such people persons, we just love that extra level of fun.
We buy pin lots from ebay, keep what we like and trade what we already have or don't want. It's an economical way to add to collections. I have a favorite I got recently in a pin lot. It's Pascal from Tangled, and he's yellow. I just need him in other colors to make a set.
The best part about all this? We've gotten a whole new generation of family and friends hooked on pin trading. We have a number of lanyards and so many pins to get the kids started, they've added their own new level of park experience. It also helps overcome some shyness, because they have to approach cast members to look at their pins.
We love talking to cast members about other things while we trade pins.
AMEN!! It's great to have another trader on the boards! Welcome to our happy family, cincan19!

We use pins as a way to document our trips, so we get one for the resort (wdw, paris ect) the county or state (paris or Florida see the orange bird) then one per park, one with the year on. Any special occasions like engagement or birthdays and then any favourite new or unique attractions. And things like food and wine mnssh ect
Our pin board has our first wdw trip together and or paris engagement plus some getting ready for October with Halloween pins
I love the disneyland paris pins, the hotel pins with the keys are so nice and the unique rides are awesome as they all have pins.
Very cool idea, Phil!! It's almost like a secret code for each set of trip memories!

Hum... I will be downsizing our collection themes (the Donald pins are just taking over), and the two full frames of Chip 'n Dale pins will be one of those to go. Do you want to have a first look at them for trading?

This is another old pin that we recently acquired. From 2002 Valentine's Day, we have a romantic of Donald and Daisy riding on Dumbo. How could you beat that?!!
Awwww........

Another recent acquisition. This is an old set from Disneyland. They don't make boxes like this anymore, I'm sorry to say.
I don't collect monorail pins, but I do collect sets. I couldn't pass up owning something like this.

I have a big board of pins but my 2 stand out faves are my framed set of villains and a cast member pin for Dreams that a really nice cast member gave us, he did not even want a trade for it! We gave him a nice stitch pin. Both DS and I almost cried, he was such a nice cm that we were chatting to for ages, so it holds really special memories.

Hey Mrhub, these monorail pins seem to have your name on them!
On first glance, there's nothing special about this pin. When it was released, this was a regular rack pin. But this pin was released only for a very short time before all of them were yanked off the rack. So if you didn't buy it then, there is almost no chance in hell that you can buy it again on a Disney property or store.
Why?
It was because of the perceived "racism". It is Mickey with his face blackened, at least, that's what some people were saying. This is, of course, stupid, because this pin is supposed to represent the rubber pin backs, which are black in color! That is why the pin is the way it is.
I don't know if Disney got complaints about this, or if they suddenly realized that had happened and how it could be misinterpreted and pulled it voluntarily. Either way, this has become a collector pin.

Went to the Disney Store on State Street in downtown Chicago yesterday, and they no longer have a lot of Chicago Disney pins. In fact, they have very few pins left. Other than a few Star Wars pins, the only Chicago Disney pin that they have is this:
There's a t-shirt that has almost the same design. It actually is a classy-looking pin, and I'm sure I can trade it easily with the Chicago expats living in Central Florida next time I see them. I also bought one to keep, maybe wear it next time I'm down there.

Thats a shame ZZ- I looked forward to buying the Chicago pins whenever we were in town..
I love the one of Mickey Mouse hanging onto a street lamp with an umbrella while the wind is trying
to blow him away. When I have time I can post a pic of it.

Here's the latest update on my Dole Whip vest. For those of you who have no idea what prompted this lunatic collection, you may read the entire story here:

Anyway, two things prompted this latest update:
1. A new family of pin collectors joined us during last weekend's Windy City Pin Traders pin trading. Someone spotted a Chip n' Dale Dole Whip pin in their collection and immediately informed them of my "obsession". Of course, I had to tell them the whole story, and upon hearing it, they were more than happy to trade the pin away, and promised to keep an eye out for them from now on.
2. During the Disneyland Tiki Room 50th anniversary event, they released a pin that had Chip n' Dale with a dole whip! I managed to get someone who attended the event to get me two of this pin. Here is one of them.
It is only an LE of 500, so it is a small number.
Naturally, it fits in very well with my Dole Whip vest, so that was why I asked for two of them. They have now joined the vest. Currently, there are 106 Dole Whip cast lanyard pins, and two Dole Whip Tiki Room pins, on the vest. It is getting to be rather heavy wearing it.
I plan to wear it during our October WCPT pin trading, which will be our Halloween pin trading.

So what is the deal with the hidden Mickey pins??? I noticed Blondie has a couple on her lanyards... I didn't know they had a "specific name" I just thought they had a Mickey head on them...

These are pins that were originally were released to cast members or pin trading books/boards. That is why they were originally called Cast Lanyard pins. So they are usually not for sale and can only be obtained via trading.

AHHHHH I see! Thanks for the info, I will have to get up off my comfy couch and see how many she has. AND, I will keep an eye out for more Dole Whip pins for ya in November!

Yes ZZ- that's the Chicago pin! (I have no idea why I thought there was an umbrella on it)
We've been doing some pin framing the past few days (yes, such activity takes DAYS for us), and came across this pin that has taken a more significant meaning since we first got it. With the impending closure of Maelstrom, I'm sure if I put this pin on e-bay, it will go for quite a bit more than what I paid for it.
The front of the pin looks like this:
When you open it, you see Donald riding the boat.

That's a great pin Zz. I don't collect pins, but after seeing this one and the monorail ones, you have me thinking I should start my own collection.

Just remember to limit your collection to just one or two narrow themes. Otherwise, you will end up being a sad, old creature like me.

This is an appropriate pin set, considering the season.
We traded for this during the last WCPT pin trading. The set came in an envelope that looks like this:
When you open it and take out the content, it is a card with two pins on it: Donald and a ghost.
It is a rather nice pin set, even if it is quite simple.
