It's time to say farewell to Captain EO. And this time it's a forever kind of goodbye. Disney has announced that the on-again, off-again 3D film will leave Epcot forever on December 6 to make way for a new Disney/Pixar Short Film Festival.
The 1986 film starring the late Michael Jackson debuted at Epcot in 1986 and ran through 1994. It came back in 2010 for a limited time after Jackson died in 2009 and it seems that "limited time" has run its course.
In recent months the attraction has been closed for special previews of Tomorrowland and Inside Out.
The new Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival will feature a look "into the visionary minds behind some of the world's most iconic animated films" according to Disney.
The 4D experience will include three animated shorts that will reportedly "come to life" inside the theater.
There is no word yet on when the new Disney and Pixar exhibit will open but Captain EO's last mission to change the world is December 6.
Are you sad to see Captain EO close? Let us know in the comments.

Captain EO has done it's time. I thoroughly enjoyed it in the 80's when it came out. As a tribute to the late Michael Jackson , sincere gesture !!!
Now for something completely different !!!

I was glad to been able to see it once again, but it stayed for 6 years. And i think we are pretty healed of our grief from losing MJ. It's time to move on.

If it is forever, please release a DVD, or digital download for the fans of Captain EO and MJ.... Perhaps bundle it with a collection of other bygone experiences--Kitchen Cabaret, the films from the Wonders of Life Pavilion. I'd rather buy those than a $90 dessert cruise!
