D23 News: Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios Announce Upcoming Film Slate at D23 Expo

At the D23 Expo on Friday afternoon, John Lasseter, chief creative officer of Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios announced details and shared footage for the upcoming slate of animated films. The films include Coco, Wreck-it-Ralph 2, Frozen 2, Toy Story 4, and more.

Opening in theaters on November 22, Coco tells the story of Miguel, an aspiring musician whose family has banned music. Miguel finds himself in the Land of the Dead where he meets Hector (voiced by Gael Garcia Bernal) and they set off to unlock the story behind Miguel's family history.

The film stars Anthony Gonzales as Miguel and Benjamin Bratt as Ernesto de la Cruz, and features songs written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez (Frozen).

Playing in front of Coco is a new 21-minute featurette, Olaf's Frozen Adventure. The short film stars Josh Gad, Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, and Jonathon Groff.

Incredibles 2 arrives in theaters on June 15, 2018, and starts up right after the end of the first film. The sequel stars Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunters, Sarah Vowell, Huck Milner, and Samuel L. Jackson. The storyline of the film "puts the family into an expanded universe that includes new allies and a brand-new villain."

The sequel to Wreck-it-Ralph, Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-it-Ralph 2 arrives in theaters on November 21, 2018. The film stars the Sarah Silverman, John C. Reilly, Jack McBrayer, Jane Lynch, and Taraji P. Henson.

And, it also features a sequence with Disney Princesses with the voices of Auli'i Cravalho (Moana), Kristen Bell (Anna in Frozen), Kelly MacDonald (Merida in Brave), Mandy Moore (Rapunzel in Tangled), Anika Noni Rose (Tiana in The Princess and the Frog), Irene Bedard (Pocahontas), Linda Larkin (Jasmine in Aladdin), Paige O'Hara (Belle in Beauty and the Beast) and Jodi Benson (Ariel in The Little Mermaid).

Other films announced include an untitled Disneytoon Studios film scheduled for release on April 12, 2019; Toy Story 4 coming out June 21, 2019; and Frozen 2 (title to be announced) which will be released on November 17, 2019.
