Even after fourteen seasons on Broadway, Disney's "The Lion King" has broken the Minskoff's Theater box office record yet again. "The Lion King" took in over $1.8 million from eight performances over Thanksgiving weekend. This triumphant showing bested the theater's previous record which was set in January of this year also by "The Lion King."
The show's longtime popularity does not seem to be waning. "The Lion King" continues to show to audiences from all corners of the world and even recorded its best fiscal year to date last year. It really is an unprecedented feat that no other current or past Broadway show with such longevity can boast.
Premiering in 1997, "The Lion King" is now playing in six locations scattered throughout the world and has been enjoyed by over fifty million people.
