‘Festival of the Lion King’ Moving to a New Theater at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Festival of the Lion King - the popular live show featuring songs from The Lion King - is moving to a new home at Disney Animal Kingdom sometime next year.

Disney recently announced that a new structure is under construction and should be ready to host the show sometime in 2014. The new theater will be located in the Harambe Village section in the Africa area of the Animal Kingdom, which seems fitting considering The Lion King takes place in Africa.

First Time in Spanish for 'The Lion King'

It's been translated into several languages since its debut in 1997, but never Spanish. For the wildly popular and successful show "The Lion King," that will change this coming October as the show is set to open in Madrid, Spain.

Not only will this production of "The Lion King" be the first to be done in Spanish, it will also be the largest stage musical ever to hit Spain. The Madrid production, which opens October 21, will be one of seven currently playing to audiences around the globe.

"The Lion King" took in over $1.8 million from eight performances over Thanksgiving weekend. This triumphant showing bested the theater's previous record which was set in January of this year also by "The Lion King."

Legend of the Lion King opened in 1994 in Magic Kingdom's Fantasyland Theater and replaced the Magic Journeys 3D movie, which had been the main attraction at the Fantasyland Theater since 1987. Interestingly enough the Lion King show and the Lion King movie were being developed at the same time.
