If you want to visit the Magic Kingdom before Mickey's Toontown Fair closes, you'd better start planning soon. That particular area of the park is set to be closed on February 11, 2011, as part of the ongoing Fantasyland expansion.
This isn't exactly shocking news as Disney had announced plans to "repurpose" Goofy's Barnstormer when the first news of the expansion hit. However, it is a bit of sad news as the Fair has become a fixture at the kingdom and is a popular stop among the character-seeking set.
Speaking of characters, Disney is finding good homes for them that will ensure they continue to greet guests. Mickey, Minnie and the Disney Princesses will remain in the Magic Kingdom and take up a new residence near the Town Square in 2011. Tinkerbell will fly and settle into her new home at Disney's Hollywood Studios while the rest of her fairy friends will be a welcome addition to Epcot.
News of Mickey's Toontown Fair closing can only mean that work is progressing on the biggest expansion in Magic Kingdom history. Fantasyland's makeover will reportedly include more attractions and happenings for guests outside the 3-8 age range with a special focus on older guests and boys. The expansion will be finished some time in 2013.
For now, though, we'll visit Mickey at his Toontown Fair if we can as we eagerly await the unveiling of a new and improved Fantasyland.
