If you're looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of the parks, there is a place where you can go to relax, refresh and reboot - The BoardWalk. Anchored by Disney's BoardWalk Inn and Villas, this charming complex around Crescent Lake is also within walking distance (or a Friendship Boat ride) to the Yacht Club and Beach Club resorts, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin resort, Epcot, and Disney's Hollywood Studios.
No matter how you get to The BoardWalk, you'll be happy you're there. It's the perfect place for a quiet stroll around Crescent Lake during the day or night. Try your hand at some classic arcade games, rent a surrey bike and ride up and down the boardwalk, or catch an outdoor magic show after dark.
If it's food you're interested in, you are in luck. The BoardWalk is home to some incredible places to grab a bite. Kouzzina by Cat Cora is open for breakfast and dinner and serves authentic Mediterranean cuisine. Big River Grille & Brewing Works is the only working brewpub at Walt Disney World, brewing its own handcrafted ales and lagers on site. Seafood fans will love dining at the Flying Fish Cafe. You can also grab pizza at a walkup window outside Kouzzina and indulge your sweet tooth at Seashore Sweets. The BoardWalk bakery is currently undergoing a refurbishment and will reopen later in 2013.
The BoardWalk is more than food " there are some great entertainment options including dueling pianos at Jellyrolls or cutting a rug at The Atlantic Dance Hall. Or if you just want to check out the scores, head over to the ESPN Club and grab a beer and a bite to eat.
As you're strolling around Crescent Lake, taking in the sights and sounds, be sure to stop by one of the many shops for that perfect gift. The ScreenDoor General Store serves as the shop for the BoardWalk Inn and Villas, so you can find some food items and sundries, along with Disney merchandise, including some Dooney & Bourke items. The Yard, next to the ESPN Club, sells sports-related merchandise, while Thimbles and Threads is a one-stop clothing shop. If you're looking for a great piece of art, stop in the Wyland Galleries.
No matter the time of day or night, this area is a great spot to take a breather. Buy a cold drink, grab a table by the water and watch the world go by for a little while. The parks aren't going anywhere, and sometimes you just have to stop and smell the funnel cake on The BoardWalk.
A big thanks to Traci C. for this guest post on this great non-park recreation area. Do you love spending time on the Boardwalk? Stop by our member forum and share your vacation stories from this great location!
