Tom Staggs Leaving The Walt Disney Company

Tom Staggs, the man who many thought was the heir apparent to Disney CEO Bob Iger, has announced that he's leaving The Walt Disney Company after 26 years. The announcement was a shock to many in entertainment and business, and also sent the company's stock tumbling Monday afternoon.

The Walt Disney Company's chief financial officer Jay Rasulo will step down at the end of the month according to CEO Bob Iger. Rasulo was passed over for the chief operating officer job back in February when that position went to Tom Staggs.

Expansion of Shanghai Disney Resort to be Accelerated to Increase Park Capacity

The Walt Disney Company has reached an agreement with its joint venture partner in China to accelerate the expansion of the Shanghai Disney Resort.

The increased investment agreement with Shanghai Shendi Group will be used for attractions, entertainment, and other offerings to increase capacity at the theme park. Most of the additional construction should be completed by opening day.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Officially Opens to Magic Kingdom Guests on May 28

The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train has an official opening date at the Magic Kingdom.

The final piece of the New Fantasyland expansion will open to guests on May 28.

Disney Executive Al Weiss To Retire

Al Weiss, the president of worldwide operations for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, will be retiring from that role immediately after thirty-nine years of service. The decision was annouced through a letter distributed to Disney employees yesterday afternoon.

Weiss was eigtheen years old when he began his career with Disney as a worker in the Magic Kingdom. Over the years, he's held more than twenty jobs with the company including finance manager and vice president of resort operations support. He also served as president of Disney world from 1994 - 2005.
