Around the World Segway Tour

I know we have probably talked about this before, but I am info gathering on the segway tour, I am pretty sure I want to try it but does anyone have the experience? (mrhubs & scrappy?)

I just saw this--we did it a few years ago and LOVED it.

You spend the first hour learning how to drive the Segway in Innoventions. I thought I was going to cause some sort of accident because I am not super coordinated. It was actually pretty easy and our teacher was very patient and helpful. Then you spend the next hour going through a guided tour around World Showcase. We booked an early tour (9 am) so that we could have World Showcase to ourselves our our Segways. It was awesome..the tour guide gave us lots of good information and we got to see some CM's getting ready for opening. Then when you get in front of the American Pavillion you can roam a little bit on your own (not very far they give you perimeters). It was an awesome time and worth every single penny!

& September would be an awesome time to do it too..we did it in June and it was super hot..our guide told us that October was the best time to take the tour.

I did it as a surprise for Dave's birthday..he really wanted to do it but I was always terrified. I am coordinated and all but still I am a control freak and not having control scares me. Actually, a man in my group stopped short in his tracks and almost caused a ten person pile up but I actually avoided him pretty easily. I swore I'd end up in the lagoon...but I didn't. It's lots of fun!

Just a side note..if you had to choose between MNSSHP and this..I would choose thing. It's way fun.

This sounds like me and my husband. He mentions doing this every time we're planning a trip, but I feel like I'll find a way to topple over. Maybe next time...

How long have they been doing these - do y'all know? Because I know you used to be able to walk around World Showcase, even before it was opened - just walk through. But the last few times I've been, they have it roped off. Maybe because of the tour?

Would love to see pics! I confess, I've never quite gotten the appeal of a segway...I personally would rather walk someplace than stand. Are you belted on in any way?

I have such an itch to ride around on one of these, a few of our policemen in our uptown area have them and it makes me smile

I dont think I could be trusted on one. I think I would try to either do tricks or get away as fast as I can go! wheelchair

If you want to practice first, there's an area in Innoventions that you can get a "crash" course. They give you the brief safety rules then you get to ride through a little course made of cones, no big deal but you get a guide to yourself and get a feel for how easy it is to ride one. (I only knocked over a couple cones!) Once you're comfortable it's really easy.

Julie, how long did they let you ride in there? Our instructor told us that it was one minute turns but if there wasn't a line they would let you go longer.

It's just a little course made of cones, We rode longer than a minute but maybe there was no line. It's not a big experience, but will get you on one so you get the feel for it. They have you stop, start and turn, but you can't go real fast or you'll take someone or something out! Our son was excited to ride one once he turned 16 (closest he'll get to driving for a while)!

Here's one of me on that indoor course, it's by no means a large course but it is longer than a minute.

Don't worry about riding / driving the Segways - my mother (63) and I took a 4 hour tour in Paris after 20 minutes of instruction (rode across streets, off curbs, stopped at lights...). If we can do it - any of you can. and my problem wasn't driving it - it was getting OFF of it! (i did best if i stopped it against a wall before trying to dismount). My mother was a natural! GO FOR IT!!
