Food and wine events, who's booked what?

After a rather long 45 minute wait this morning (well lunchtime for us), I finally came away victorious with a cheese seminar booked for my husband, my dad and my father-in-law Laughing out loud 18th October Spanish cheese and wine. I was really pleased to get this as I know it is something both my dad and my father-in-law would love and as it's their birthday in October I've booked it as a surprise and won't tell them until it is their birthdays.

Has anyone else got anything booked?

I would love to see Rick Bayless. He's my favorite celebrity chef but the dates are wrong.

As a DVC member, we got the opportunity to sign up for the F&W sessions before the general public. So, the morning when the phones were open for DVC members to sign up, I was 2 hours after the opening time and when I tried to sign up for Carla Hall's presentation in the Festival Center on the October date we were going to be there, the session was already booked full. So, in 2 hours and days before the general public could sign up, the only session that Carla had while we were going to be there in October was sold out. Shows you have to really be an early bird to get any worms.

Sure disappointing, but after having made at least 30 trips to WDW from our place in Northern Illinois, there are many other opportunities to enjoy our trip South. So, we are just filling in the time with many other options which are always available whenever you are hanging out with the Mouse. The wife and I are fully retired, DVC members so we always have a place to stay, and we always get annual park hopper passes so we can always get into the parks when we go to WDW. We love Epcot and all the tasting booths that set up during the F&W fest, so that is our #1 goal - to taste everything and try some of the exotic cocktails that are always popping up. All diets are put away for a week to ensure that we get a chance to taste everything we can.

WDW has added many food tasting booths to the annual Epcot Flower and Garden Show in the spring so it has turned out to be a mini-F&W fest. So, we try to get down there the first week of opening to take advantage of lesser crowds, see all the flowers, and do the usual gluttonous things that you do when hanging out with Mickey and the gang.

Whenever we go down, we get out our lanyards and our trading pins and have a ball looking for new and unique pins to add to our collection - plus it is fun to talk to the Disney cast members while trading.

Can't wait for the next trip in October. Whatever we see or do will be fabulous - guaranteed!

Yes, I like most of the HGTV/Food/Cooking channel celebrities. In March of this year, we were at the Epcot Flower & Garden show and got in to see Vern Yip's presentation. He talked about flower arranging and I won a tall vase that he had been using as a demo. So, that was cool. We also saw Genevieve Gorder last year - what a beautiful gal in real life. We love the Food & Wine Festival and Flower and Garden Shows at WDW and try to get to both every year. There are just so many interesting things to see and many times you can get close and personal with people you see all the time on TV. Next time I get a chance to make reservations for a celeb that I really want to see, I am parking in front of the phone and calling immediately after the phones open for business so the Carla Hall experience does not happen again.
