It's been a LOOOONNGGG Winter

Just wanted to let everyone know I'm still around!
Time is limited these last few months, but even if I'm not replying..
I am lurking and trying my best to keep up with my Disney Friends! mickey

As with many of you, the winter here in Michigan has been unusually brutal.
I went from day shift last year, to being bumped to a 12hr night shift 6p to 6a...
spent most of January sick, finally ending in my having to take 5 days off for
walking pneumonia -upper respiratory- bronchitis crud...
then on Feb. 15 my 81yr old mother fell on black ice and broke her ankle in
two places...she is weak in her upper body strength so the first two weeks were rough
for her to get around...she now has a knee scooter (superb invention!), had surgery,
a plate with 8 screws on one side, and 2 screws on the inside of the ankle,
after 2 weeks, they took the surgery cast off, and put the hard cast on, hoping
in four more weeks we can take that cast off and replace it with a walking boot,
she has also had previous heart issues (a-fib) so now going thru some cardiologist
tests to make sure she is in a good place with all that stuff.. every week is a doctor
appt. or something !

Then our black and white feline, Daisy, had 3 fast growing masses in her tummy,
we took them out and she is now home with about a 4" incision with 2 drain tubes.
They believe the masses are going to be cancer (waiting on biopsy) so they were
very aggressive in removing her tummy fat, etc. She has to be under direct supervision
so she doesn't lick her wounds or else the cone collar goes on ....anyone who has a cat
knows cone collars are very BAD. She is a mess when she has to wear one.

Perhaps you remember our friend who we were going to Disney with next Feb.
has a husband who is dragging feet on going...he is still uninterested so its starting
to sound like they will pull out and not go...tried to get our friend to go with us and
we could do a girls only trip but she feels guilty spending money on a vacation that he isn't
there to enjoy with her...so it's looking glum...

So far, I'm not real impressed with 2014~!

That my friends, is my sad state of affairs....
hoping things are going better for all of you!!
And now..I will go back to my lurking -----
waiting

Cheer up, spring can't be too far away. We've had a particularly cold and snowy winter in Pennsylvania, also, but not as bad as yours has been.

I hope your mother continues to improve and her ankle heals fully. I also hope your kitty's tumors are benign - but if not, I hope the vet got everything. Poor kitty.

As for your friend - hey, her husband could go along if he wanted to; it's not her fault he doesn't want to, so she should stop worrying about the money and just go.

Hey Magic, don't just lurk. I was going to ask how your mom and the kitty were doing. I think we are all suffering from cabin fever and the winter dull drums.

I know what you mean about the overnight shift, I'm on it now but thank god I only have a little more then a week until it changes.

Just keep thinking, spring is coming, spring is coming!

I know exactly how you feel about this past winter MM. I'm beginning to wonder if we will ever get rid of this snow. So sorry to hear about your Mom, but glad she is on the mend. My father broke his ankle a few years ago and he had a plate inserted as well. He was about the same age. He gets around great now and has no major issues with it, so I'm sure you Mom will bounce back fine. Also sorry to hear about your kitty. That is so hard to deal with and yes, the cone is a bad thing. Sending happy healing thoughts your way! bighug

I feel your pain, Magic. I'm in northeast Indiana and we've gotten record snowfall this year. I could even tolerate the snow if it wasn't single digits nearly everyday!! I'm not sure how far north you are into MI but I'm sure you are even worse off then we are, so I don't blame you at all for being over it. I'm seriously beginning to think that all the snow won't be off the ground by our Disney trip in May!

Rough start to your year, but there's always a Disney light at the end of the tunnel.

And I know this has been the winter from we all know where but I do believe there is light at the end of the tunnel as we are in March. crossfingers Am so sorry all these things happened. But they should all be behind you now and the rest of the year will be wonderful.

Angie I would like to make this a hardy second....THIS WINTER STINKS. We also have had a higher than normal amount of snowfall. As a matter of fact last weekend as it was snowing for the 3rd consecutive weekend I was online looking at job opportunities in FL. I hope your mother gets along well and your fur baby recovers fully. As for your friend's husband what a wet blanket. Too bad she won't go without him. Hang in there spring is around the corner that's what I keep telling myself.

Just had a thought MM - if your friends don't want to visit the World with you, why don't you move your dates back 1 week and join Ken and I and mrhub & scrappy the week of January 24th-31st? It would be great to meet you and Amy. biggrin

WOW! I was just thinking earlier today that I hadn't seen you around in awhile! I'm sorry so much craziness has been going on. Sometimes it seems like all the bad stuff pours in at once. I'm glad you're back and I hope winter disappears very soon (for all of us)! 2014 has to get better for you!!

Farmer JeffC fell 12 feet from the hay loft onto a concrete floor and scored a concussion, broken arm, cracked jaw and bruised back. If hay lofts were a ride at WDW, I would not like..... eek

I already tried that with Joe PirateGirl. I told him to tell Joe he needed a pity me trip, but that didn't work. Joe is pulling the " but I have to do all the chores for 12 weeks" line!

Just looking at that photo makes MY arm hurt! Yikes! Get better soon. I think some physical therapy at a Disney spa will be in order once you are on the mend. biggrin

Our January trip with friends to Disney has been officially cancelled ...
boo hoooo ...... sad

I did book a cruise back to New England/Canada with NCL for next year...
June 2015---- so I have something to plan for ..... to help my compulsive trip planner ways eek

Thinking of trying for Disney in October of next year......Amy really wants to go
back for Halloween again.......thanks to possible changes coming from the government
in implementing online medical records (which affects Amy's job and when she can take
time off) we thought we might make this October....but now poor Amy is looking like
she might have to have surgery .......and that will eat up this years vacation days....

and after a few days of beautiful 60-70 degree weather ... it is snowing outside right now.
We have about 1/4 inch on the ground. *michigan* yuck

so thankful I have you guys to keep up with !~!~! in my moments of tranquility...
i'm off tonight, have a cat sound asleep beside me, the coonhound dreaming on the couch,
house is quiet...so I'm pouring a glass of wine and reading a few more of your writings...

and if anyone is interested...its a local Michigan wine... Fox Barn Winery up near Silver Lake....
Old Vine White Semi-Sweet......tastes just like Welch's white grape juice- awesome

Boohoo on the cancelled trip! I may need to do that too....we will see.

Do we need to add Amy to our injured and recovering list? sad wishing her well.
