Lanyards: Must Do or Never Do?

Do you wear a Lanyard at Walt Disney World? If so, why or why not?
Do you use it for pin trading, holding your ticket, just because everyone else seems to have one?

Is a Disney Lanyard a Must Do or Never Do for you?

We normally use them for 'magic hours' in the park to hold our passes. We do put a few pins on them, just a couple of our favourites, but we don't trade any of them.

I usually wear at least 1 or 2. Sometimes I won't wear one in the mornings but wear it in the afternoon and evening.

I use it to display my favorite pins, but also always keep a few traders on just in case I see something I want. When I'm not wearing a lanyard, I'll stick a few pins on my shorts or shirt just in case - always be prepared! awesome

I bought a new lanyard for vacation that looks like a necklace. The problem with it being that there's no real place for pins! I'm on the hunt for Orange Bird pins during our June trip.

Okay... I know I'm not kidding anyone, I'm on the hunt for Orange Bird everything. laugh

I have a Tinkerbell lanyard that I carry normally with my keys on it. I know I'll hook a clear pouch to it and attach my ID's, etc., but since I don't pin-trade I haven't decided if I'll actually wear the lanyard or just keep it easily accessible in the front pocket of my small bag.

I wore one on our last trip for pin trading. Next time, I plan on putting pins on my messenger bag. Don't really like having it around my neck.

As many times as I have been, I've never purchased or worn a lanyard. I've also never bought any pins. This year, I will buy a lanyard, but have no plans of wearing it at Disney. We have to wear an ID at work so I will use it for that when I get home. I keep our park tickets in my wallet. I almost don't feel safe carrying it around my neck.

We are wearing lanyards with a little pocket thing this trip as we will be carrying numerous cards with us ...kttw, tiw, Dvc, photopass plus and probably drivers license for Id just in case. I do have pins to go on it so I can try trading this trip. I am looking for Beaker with mouse ears on.

I have several pin lanyards. I now wear my DCL landyard and attach pins to it because it has the pouch. DW bought me a DCL lanyard with a small Velcro wallet for our upcoming cruises. So I'm pro-lanyard biggrin

I've never done a lanyard or traded pins, but I love Eeyore's plan to buy one to wear at work. Very cool idea!

I don't wear one in the parks. I like the idea of getting one to wear at work with my ID.

Never wear one. We're not pin traders and DH always carries all the cards in his wallet.

I always carry a lanyard in the parks. I limit the number of pins on it to keep it light weight. I would rather carry a lanyard than my wallet. We'll see if that changes once MDE is complete.

Wearing lanyards at WDW, Kristen? I don't know what you're talking about!

I am NOT a lanyard person at all! I don't like wearing things round my neck, plus they never match my outfit Wink

You got to meet Scoop. Very awesome. I have yet to find him. Hopefully later this year I'll get a chance.

I agree with Robynprincess....I just don't like stuff around my neck. Also agree with others that I am afraid I will lose it. At work my badge often comes off of my lanyard. I would hate for that to happen with room key, ticket, etc.

So it all goes in the crossbody nylon bag from Eddie Bauer - very lightweight, and kinda water repellent. But now if I was a pin trader, I would do it! I am afraid to get that addiction started. I am bad enough with shirts and plush.
And magnets. And mugs. sigh. mickey

Well, for most of us pin traders, we got used to having stuff hanging around our necks. We tend to wear lanyards, and during various pin events, we have to wear our credentials throughout the entire event, which are usually attached to lanyards. So, we got used to having these things around.

Are you talking about what Eddie Bauer calls a "slingpack?" I use one of those in lieu of a purse, although I usually hook it so it's an over-the-shoulder bag. Very convenient, lightweight, and easy to carry. But not at Disney World or any other park - I stuff what I need into pockets and go bagless.

As for lanyards, no, I don't use them either.

nor sure what it is called, crazycat, but it looks just like a crossbody purse does. I love it, and it is even deep enough to hold a sturdy poncho if need be. Smile

I've typically toured with a lanyard (I'm a super obsessed pin trader) and my crossbody swiss bag, which started out to be my "Disney bag" and quickly became my everything bag. This time, I am taking my lanyard and swiss bag, but I'm going to try out my newly modified mini pin trading bag. I had an episode on space mountain last August where the velcro came undone on my lanyard during the ride and it almost flew off my neck. Luckily I'm relatively skilled at reacting to this type of emergency situation and I was able to grab it and secure it until the ride was over, but that episode coupled with countless dropped pins made me decide that it was time to switch to a zippered pin bag. I tried out my new mini pin bag in June when I got lucky enough to be at an Orlando conference and grabbed a few hours to share my DIsney obsession with my co-workers, but I found the bag uncomfortable and inefficient to use. I decided to cut the seams off the sides of each page and it is much easier to maneuver now. Since we were lucky enough to get Magic Bands for our upcoming trip and I have no cards to carry, I am going to try carrying only my pin bag since it also has a pocket for my phone. I'm not sure how we're handling water bottles yet--maybe a hip holster type of system--or what we're doing about ponchos.

So since this thread I have converted to a string type backpack. No more crossbody at WDW, but I now use that for ushering gigs (a great free way to see cool shows). It is even lighter, distributes the "weight" on my back instead of one shoulder. It is a bit of a hassle to take it off when I want to make a purchase, ride something, etc, but I do like it better.

However, you pin folks may need a different solution. mickey

I used to wear a lanyard for my pins but since my pin collection has grown, I have purchased bag for pin trading that fits all of my pins. I think I will carry my trading pins on my lanyard and the ones I wanna keep in my bag.

Definitely lanyards both DH and I. He is slightly more obssessive than I am but I did tell him not to wear all three at the same time. He clunked as he walked plus you cannot see the pins! We traded a few but not that many and he has pin locked them all so cannot. I had a Halloween lanyard and have an Alice themed one and will have a general one. I wear a lanyard for work and have a few non Disney pins on it ( breast cancer pin, charity pins etc)
