Send good juju please

Hi all!

Thank you all so much for the birthday wishes that you sent. It was such a pleasant surprise to see them. I wish that I could say that I had an amazing birthday - but that's just not how it went. Instead my body decided that it would be a good time for a dental emergency and I'm spent the past several days wishing that we could just cut my face off because it would surely feel better that way.

I'm going in for a double tooth extraction (without sedation - yikes!) on Monday. Please send good toothy thoughts my way and as much pixie dust as possible. I'll be honest, I'm going to be a giant baby.

I'm going to try my hardest to keep up with everything around here, my apologies in advance if anything slips by. I know that MrHub and Vettelover will have a handle on the forums. No wild parties while I'm out. wink

Ouch! If they offer to juice you up *after* the surgery, take it! In this case, drugs are your friend. biggrin

No worries Kristen and you will be fine and it will be over before you know it. Judy just had a tooth extracted the other week and a bone graph and was in and out in under 30 minutes and she said it was a piece of cake. She chose to only be numbed, not sedated and it was no problem.

As Mrhub said it really was not bad. I bet it was literally only 5 minutes for the surgeon to get the tooth out, the bone graft in and stitches in place. He gave me two prescriptions for pain meds. I only got one filled which was just prescription strength Motrin. I only took it twice the first day. The second day I just took two Advil as needed. This was done on the side I chew on so in all honesty, the other side of my mouth was more sore than the side he worked on. That is how I could describe it, sore, more so than pain. I am now 3 weeks into a 8 week healing process before he puts the implant in. Once the implant is in, I will have a 12 week healing process before the new tooth will be added to the implant. All of this takes me up to just about the time for our November trip. I do admit the thought of all of this scared me but it really was a piece of cake. And...I could justify having ice cream every night after dinner for the first week because it did not hurt to chew laugh .

Oh Kristen! Get a BIG ice pack and don't be afraid to use it!!
You can even use a blue ice gel pack - lay it flat on a pillow and then lay your lovely head down on that.

Ghost Ice is your friend!!!

Oh thank you so much for sharing all that with me! biggrin
I'm really terrified about the whole prospect, I don't do the dentist well, so me going at all is a big deal. Right now I'm in so much pain and my face is so swollen, I'll do just about anything for it to be over. I'm so glad to hear that you did fine without sedation, I was nervous about that but my insurance doesn't cover it and I just can't afford it. I'm on antibiotics right now to try and get rid of the infection before I go in.

Ice and Ice Cream are a must.

Hoping for the best for you, Kristen.

Just to be clear - when you say no sedation, you mean they won't knock you out, but you will have copious amounts of novocain or whatever is necessary so you don't feel anything, right?

Anyway, just make sure your dentist gives you a prescription for industrial-strength pain relief, just in case. You already know how bad dental pain can be. Better have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

eek Oh my god I hope so!! I think they're just not putting me into that twilight sleep. I'm going to take some anxiety medication before I head in though, and maybe a muscle relaxer.

I am so sick of my face hurting right now I just need this all to be over. I think my family is probably pretty sick of hearing me moan and complain too.

Mark - Thank you so much for the pixie dust picture you sent me o Facebook. I was all drugged up and half asleep when it bleeped on my phone but when I looked I knew exactly what it was. That was so sweet and very magical.

Thank you all so much for your support, it's good to know that I've got all these virtual hands holding mine when it's time for them to yank those teeth out.
