SHare Your Tricks & Tips for Getting the Room You Want

When staying at Disney do you usually put in a request for a specific room, or do you just go with what they give you? Are you a pro at getting the room you want? What are your best tips & tricks for getting the right room for you?

Having stayed only twice onsite, we only made a request once and that was to be near reception, and that was in the beach club in the furthest room away possible.... At AKL we didn't make any requests and were upgraded to a partial savanna view which was AMAZING! This year we are staying in AKL for 7 nights, BLT 2 nights and then AKL again for 10 nights. I really would like a partial savanna room at AKL and a high floor at BLT with a room ending in 18 (theme park view Laughing out loud). Would love to know the best way of requesting this.

At AKL when we were upgraded to a partial savanna room we had been chatting to the girl outside earlier in the day before our room was ready, we were talking for a good while. We then went to AK and when we came back our room still wasn't ready but the girl who greeted us outside before was now behind the desk, she told us our room wasn't ready still but that she was going to change our room to one that was ready, she told us it was a partial savanna room, once we got to the room I cried, it wasn't partial to me! I went back to thank her for giving us the room. I'm sure it helped that we chatted to her before and seemed really excited to be there that she changed the room for us.

When staying at a resort eg. Riverside, I don't like requesting a room because part of the fun and Disney experience to me is the excitement of finding out what building you are in when you check in. I have stayed in all the Mansion houses and a few of the alligator bayou buildings and they all had something special and different about them. My favourite was when we had a room at the far end of parterre place. It was really quiet. We were right at the end on an upper floor. Although it was my favourite stay, I wouldn't request it again because next time I would like a different location, it could be even better!

We've always made our requests pretty general - for POR, we just asked for anywhere in the Mansions, ground floor. Each time we've been given fabulous rooms - quiet, off the beaten track, but very close to the bridge to the main buildings.

This May, we are staying at POP for the first time. I think we will request a lake view, maybe 4th floor, and see where we end up.

I usually just request a specific bldg/location. I've never asked for a specific room. The most in depth my request every got was when we stayed at the Contemporary for my 40th birthday, my DH wrote a letter to the hotel manager requesting the highest floor possible that wasn't concierge and as close to the Magic Kingdom end as possible. We got the 11th floor with a beautiful view of the MK and the manager even sent us a note and some sweets to help us celebrate!

YES! For the most part. In resorts with no elevators, I do get a little picky and request ground floor or a building with an elevator. Just makes my life easier with the stroller.

I love to see where we are staying! We have done POR twice, the first time we were in Magnolia Bend, so the next time I did request Alligator Bayou, for the change. Ended up in corner room in bldg 18, not too shabby! It's like a different resort feel.

I do like to see where we end up. Part of the surprise. It's great!!

I always request a full balcony. Knock wood, I've always been lucky enough to get it.

In the Poly, I requested a particular building, and got it both times. At the Beach Club, I requested to be as close to Epcot as possible, and got exactly that.

I try to keep my requests fairly general & limit them to three as it's much easier for them to find a top floor room facing away from the main pool to put me in than it is to get me in to a specific room. I usually get at least two out of three of my requests. I also try to prioritize so if they can only fulfill one or two of my requests they know which ones or the most important. Also if there is a medical reason for a certain request I mention it. In 2010 I stayed in POR (no elevator) & requested a ground floor room because I have bad knees. I made a point of mentioning that I was requesting a ground floor room because of my bad knees & that my mom & stepdad were joining me. The cm asked for my folks' name & address, looked up there reservation & linked our reservations with a note that we were traveling together & to see my requests. My folks & I had ground floor rooms right next to each other.

I am not sure if this will work, but we're trying it this Fall.....

We're intentionally taking a red eye flight from the west coast, which puts us at MCO by 6am. We're hoping that by checking in very early, that we'll be 1st in line for room priority. We also intend to milk up the whole 2nd honeymoon angle Smile

We know we can't actually get into our room till later, but we can drop our luggage, get our KTTK, & hit the parks!

Never say never. We have checked into the Poly many at time by 9 am and our room have never not been ready. All depends how busy they are & what time of year you are going.

One can hope! We are arriving on a day that is rated a "4" out of 10 on the crowd calendars, so maybe we'll get lucky!

I always heard that if you do your online check in as early as possible, the chance of your requests being honored are more likely... So I checked in online about a week early for WL and received every request that I had made plus more... But the fact that it was our honeymoon may have helped in that area... I'll let ya know how it goes again when I make my requests for OKW and check in online early again!
