Toy Story Mania

So...I can't see in "3D" and was wondering what my experience will be like with this ride. I did find a topic about his at WDWMagic, but was wondering if any of you have similar problems. Without going into a long, boring, technical explanation; if you don't have binocular vision, you can't see in "3D" (not the optical illusions on paper, or 3D film with the glasses). If you ever close one eye and try to do one of those optical illusions, you can't. If you close one eye while watching/riding a 3D attraction, it's no longer 3D. Might still look cool, might still give a limited effect, but no 3D. This has always been frustrating for me. Because of my amblyopia, I've always felt like I only get half of the show.

Anyone else with amblyopia, strabismus, color-blindness, or other visual impairment have experience with TSM?

With all that said, I'm sure I'll still have fun.

What do 3-D movies look like to you? Does it look flat or does it looked messed up? Or do you not wear the glasses at all?

Looks about the same to me as to you only nothing "jumps out". If you close one eye the next time you're watching a 3D attraction, that's exactly what I see. My visual acuity with correction is great. Even my astigmatism is corrected, so depth perception is good. Just don't have binocular vision due to amblyopia.

If that's the case then I bet the game will be fine. The stuff coming at you is probably more of a distraction and I wouldn't say it's even close to necessary for enjoyment of the ride.

I can let you know mid August - I am blind in one eye and can't see 3D correctly either!

Wow! I feel like I'm in the minority that I only have to wear contacts! I feel really bad for the people with 20 20 vision around here... losers...

LOL

Stupid people with their stupid properly functioning eyes... cool

Uncorrected I'm something like 20/2200. For those that wear glasses or contacts, I'm roughly a -12.00 (though my left eye is a bit better than my right). I have myopia, amblyopia, and astigmatism (none are terribly uncommon, but pretty severe in my case). That said, I'm blessed that my vision is correctable to almost 20/20 (with glasses and/or contacts).

Normally I'm still able to enjoy Disney 3D attractions, even if in 2D. I'm really looking forward to this ride.

Glasses here too, though my eyesight is nearly 20/20 with them. I just can't get my finger in my eye for contacts!

Thankfully Disney made the 3D glasses to fit over regular glasses!

Blech! That sounds awful yuck

Though I do it every day! (I'm right around -7.00 in both eyes, LIFL, so I get a lot of the "are you BLIND?!?" stuff all the time)

They really do think of everything!

And yep, Bali, I've been there sister. I thought it was cool when I was a kid that I was "legally blind" without correction. Truthfully though, it doesn't take much. Depending on the standard, it's only a +/-2.00 if uncorrectable.

No kidding?!? I had no idea it was so low.

Well, that's the SSI standard. There are others. When I was a kid, I seem to remember one being +/-6.00.

Yeah isn't legally blind without correction kind of missing the point. I.E. the standard is pretty high, but it's "with correction." So saying you're legal blind without correction is like saying your DWI without driving. I just made that simile up and I'm still deciding if it makes sense. sarcastic

Makes sense, but I think these standards are meant to apply to people that are not correctable at all or not above the set level. Most people with visual impairment like ours are correctable, but some are not so fortunate.

Do I still get to be part of the club if I used to have bad eyes???

I was a -14.25 in both eyes until about 2 years ago, I had lasik corrective surgery. Now I am about 20/15 in both eyes. I love not having the hassle of contacts anymore, but I do suffer from chronic dry eye now that I didn't before.

I like wearing glasses. I have lots of designer frames, and I think they're quite stylish...HRMPH.

Good thing anyway, 'cause I'm not a good candidate for vision corrective surgery.

LOL

I don't know about parallel. Diametrically opposed is about as far as I'd go there. I always felt they were a bit protrusive for my liking.

I've got some asymmetry going on like everyone else. Only difference for me is my mom's been an optician longer than I've been alive. An expert fitting your glasses (style, size, shape, adjustment for your particular face - or ears in this case) makes a huge difference. It's not like buying a car; your experience choosing a frame should be more than "I like that one *points*". The person doing the fitting (licensed optician) should take into account the shape of your face, size, skin tone, etc. in making recommendations.

Also, far as aesthetics, with the new ultra high-index (1.74) polycarbonate lenses you can get very stylish frames even with impairment like mine.

p.s. I know it's all in jest. Just trying to help. You can have cool glasses, even with funny ears biggrin

Wow . . I wore glasses just shy of 20 years before I opted for corrective surgery, and I dont think that I EVER had help picking out frames . . . maybe that would have helped

Oh well, C'est la Vie

I have to say that having someone help you pick on and fit your glasses is a serious help.
