Upgrade to annual pass...?

Hi folks,

Jan and I are heading to the World for 10 days this coming January. We've got everything booked including a 10 day park hopper.

We are also thinking of booking for next October for F&W. Jan mentioned to me that she believes that we can purchase an annual pass while we are at Disney in January and they would apply what we paid for the 10 day park hopper towards the pass.

Is this true? Can anyone shed light on the details or how much an upgrade would cost?

We're averaging 2 to 3 trips a year to WDW and am starting to think we might be DVC material. Still not sure about it though!

Thanks guys!

Ken

yes you should be able to upgrade to an annual pass and the money you already paid for your 10 day Parkhopper will be applied towards it. Here read this Ken

It is true. And you definitely should. The AP discount is 10% off most retail and some table service (though not very many places, unless you do TIW). I've saved quite a bit with my discount on my last 2 trips!

I had an 8 day park hopper for my November trip and upgrade to an annual pass since I will be going back in February. It was $246 for the upgrade for me. It was super easy. I went to guest services at DTD. They even linked it to my magic band.

Thanks for that link mrhub! That's an interesting article. We probably will be going for at least 12 days out of the year so it might be worth getting.

JMUDukz, that is good to know about the discounts. Could definitely use a percentage off of purchases!

JoAnne, that sounds like a reasonable upgrade cost. I think this will be worth it based on how often we plan on going.

Thank you! awesome

When we were leaving Epcot one day I looked at the ticket prices posted. It was $289 for a 5 day pass without the park hopper. So definately worth it. I'll be able to use it for the first couple of days on my trip next November.

I agree, easy to do and so worth it, the trouble will be after being an AP holder, it will be hard going back and missing those discounts lol

Hi guys,

Thanks very much for your replies. awesome

Well, I have another question for those of you with passes (or looked into them). Since we plan on visiting WDW at least 2 times per year, we're thinking we're Annual Pass material.

My question is...

When does the pass actually "activate"? If I were to purchase a pass now but not show up at Disney World until September, would the pass activate at that time or now? Obviously, if it activates now, there's no point in purchasing one now. I've read a couple of things online about a voucher vs a pass. But the Disney World website just seems to sell a pass and they don't really explain anything regarding activation dates.

Thanks friends for any advice you can provide! biggrin

We had to renew our AP's this trip because they expired the day before we arrived. We ordered them months before and Disney sent us a voucher, which looked like a ticket, and we handed that in at the will call window and they renewed our AP. They said it does not activate until first use. If you call and order an AP, they will explain it all to you then, and just verify with the CM.

We had to get the voucher to be able to do our Fastpass+. but the numbers on the vouchers served as our confirmation that we were renewing our AP's.

Thanks MrHub! I think we'll just call them instead of ordering online. It's good to know we can purchase ahead of time and then activate it during our first visit using the pass. Since we backed out of DVC (for now wink ) we at least should have an AP and that TOW card! biggrin

I'm so looking forward to our next trip. Can't get enough of the bubble! awesome
