The Walt Disney Company has struck a deal with the NBA that reaches past the ABC and ESPN broadcast coverage straight into the Walt Disney World Resort. Wednesday the two announced in a press release that Disney Springs would be home to a new entertainment venture called "The NBA Experience."
As with much of the recent news coming out of the Disney Springs development, not a lot of details were released regarding the new project. However, Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger said the company is "thrilled to work with the NBA to take our guests inside the world of professional basketball with an extraordinary entertainment experience."
What we have been told is that the NBA Experience will provide a one-of-a-kind destination, creating a fun basketball experience that will put "families and guests of all ages right in the middle of NBA game action" with "immersive NBA video productions and numerous interactive experiences." NBA commissioner Adam Silver said "Working with the world's top creator and operator of themed entertainment attractions, we can't wait to bring the magic of Disney and the excitement of the NBA to guests from around the world."
In addition to the activities, we hear that there are also plans for an NBA-themed restaurant and retail store as well. No timeline has been offered for this progress, but Disney Springs construction is anticipated to be complete sometime in 2016.
